I seen a similar ad in TX newspaper and Calif an other states it apparently was on a tour circuit with Goodyear tire stores in the 70-s

Thanks a whole lot Dave, now I've wasted the rest of the morning and part of the afternoon digging through their archives...    :P

That's the St. Joseph, MO newspaper.  I've been scanning the October '69 thru February '70 issues looking for any ads or other mentions of the two Daytonas that St. Joseph Dodge had on their lot then.  3--Daytona's F5 survivor and my R4 perpetual project car were there at the time.  Nothing so far, but I've only had time to hit a few of the Sunday editions.

That is a nice ad.   That one is a Goodyear tour which would go from store to store.   It would be neat to know which Daytona was used for their show car.   Someone in the area must have photos.    Geno, maybe you can run an ad in the local paper, LOL.

Also, there were individual teams or drivers covered under contract by Goodyear, and they would do promotional appearances as requested.  A small price to pay for free race tires.   This photo is Ramo and the Superbird making a promotional stop at a Goodyear store in the spring of 1970.

On the wing is the orange blossom wreath from victory lane at Daytona, and in the vent window is the Vulcan 500 qualifying race flag from Talladega in April of '70.  You can also see where the blue paint was blended into the front fender for a quick touch up.

The open trailer is what the car rode on to and from the race track.  In 1970, it was pulled by a blue late model single cab Dodge pickup with a contractor utility bed like a plumber or electrician would use.

And that was how it was done.   About the only difference from the ad was a heavy brown car cover over the race car.

It is hard to believe that what many of us use as a basic trailer setup today is far superior to what they used to tow a fully funded state of the art race car.

This is Ramo's Road Runner from 1969 on a home built trailer that he built from a used grease rack in the early 60's. This trailer covered a LOT of miles.   The small identical decals on the roof and sail panel are from race wins.

I have those original Goodyear racing car promotional posters. No Daytona, but the Spirit of America, Don Garlit's slingshot "Swamp Rat", Can-Am, Dan Gurney's AAR and an Indy car. I need to take a picture or two of them....

Those Goodyear posters are some of my favorites.   It's too bad they did not do a stock car.
