Alright - I honestly don't know this answer...     does the 73 B-body cars use the E-body shifter pad for a 4-speed ?  do the bench seat cars use the forward mounting pad ?

I got a 73 Charger with buckets and no console, it uses the rear pad.

Yes the 3rd gens used the same mounting pad as the E bodies. I believe the only difference with the bench seat 3rd gens is that they used a special Hurst Pistol Grip shifter. The floor hump and rear transmission mounting pad are the same. I think it would be way up under the dash if the front pad were used.
