I know that a stock 44o can take about 500-550hp but is there anything I can do to beef up the bottom end to take more.  What about bigger studs on the mains?  Any suggestions?

RD

you can use a main stud kit, a main girdle, the usage of ARP connecting rod bolts (wave-loc) and go with either billet steep mains or aluminum mains (its all on the machinist on who likes what, i wont get in that argument), or you can go ahead and get your block machined for the 4 bolt main caps (but that is mega expensive).

The factory main caps will be fine at that power level. Arp main bolts and arp rod bolts are all you need for hardware . The best thing you could possibly do is to have the rotating assembly balanced for reliability/durability.

So...if I go with arp's for main and rod and balance the whole thing what is the limit for hp/torque and then what would be reccomended hp/torque.  It will be a stroker and mainly a strip car.

The original question was about a "stock 440"....you didn't say anything about a stroker. For a stroker combo you'll need main studs as opposed to bolts which requires a line bore. Aftermarket main caps and aftermarket rods....the LY's won't be good enough. The stock block should be good to 650hp if everything is properly assembled and balanced. To make that kind of power you'll need some high dollar heads....

Thanks for the info.  Sorry I left out that part about the stroker...that was a slight oversight on my part.  ::) Unfortunately I am aware of that the heads will be an expensive part of this project, but it is only money right. ;D  But, anything worth doing is worth doing right.

No problem Tony....it's allways nice to have all the relevant information when making a recommendation.  ;) Yes, i agree on the heads....spend wisely there and match them to the rest of the build. I'm sure you'll do it right when the time comes. Just ask here if you've got any questions.

Don't worry, you'll be fine with the stock caps at your power level which should be in the 600hp range.   ;) The aftermarket caps are just insurance in case he wants to step up the combo in the future....he did mention race car...and we know how that allways goes.....more power...need more power, lmao.      :drive: :smilielol:
