Just curious ?
If not, when did you buy them ? As in how long ago, and how long have you been running them ?

if Yes, did you get warranty ?

Thanks

Member Steve P has a buddy who built a supercharged 440 for a customer. The head cracked along the lower bolt boss and began to seep coolant. That head was pulled and sent in under warrenty from what i remember....a couple of years ago.

I understand that the heads only come with a 30 day warranty or so, but that 440 Source has agreed to replace any of its heads that crack as a result of poor casting/bad metallurgy or whatever . . .

But that's just reading stuff online, here and at Moparts.com, where it seems like there are some people who really dislike the heads and 440 Source in general.

I think I remember seeing the owner of the company saying on Moparts.com that the cracking was only being reported from one batch of heads . . .

And yes, here are his exact words, posted May 2010:

"We did have one isolated production run last year that had a problem with the aluminum that made the heads more prone to cracking. The problem was solved shortly after it was discovered, and we have sold over two thousand heads since that particular production batch, and not a single one has had a cracking problem.

Every single customer that has called us with a cracked head has had it replaced under warranty at no charge, and we will continue to do this as long as possible.

Again, any cracks were an isolated incident from one production run. Please understand that any manufacturer, no matter how well known of a "name brand" or no matter expensive or inexpensive their products are, they will occasionally have issues which need to be corrected. This is the reason why reputable manufacturers offer a warranty against defects in manufacturing for a specified period of time after purchase."

Even over on Moparts.com, it seems like there are only a few instances of people reporting heads cracking, but what the hell do I know.

I bit the bullet and bought a set this fall but haven't really run them yet. I'm still trying to figure out what head gasket to run, MLS or regular permatorque stuff.

Personally, 440 Source has treated me well. I bought a set of the 10 degree locks and retainers - my bag came one-half of a lock short and the guys over there mailed me what I needed and had it to me ASAP with no questions asked.

I really hope their heads - now mine - work out good, too. Sorry I can't help more!

Oh - as someone sitting on a pair of these heads - why do you ask if anyone's heads are cracking?

Do you know something we don't?

Is there something we should all be aware of?  :shruggy:

(Sorry for all the questions! You're just making me nervous!)

I just got mine in last week.  They are at the machine shop getting the 10deg keepers and retainers put in along with a checking for valve sealing and guide clearances while its being done.  Pretty much what ever I had read about being an issue from a long time back.  I asked about different concerns that had come up about the heads and was told that previous issues had been taken care of.  I got the perma gaskets.  Still have to order the head bolt kit and 3/4" plugs as I didn't realize I needed to at the time I ordered them.
