73-74 Tail Lights

I always thought my drivers side tail light lens was replaced because the reverse light was clear and my passenger side is yellowed. Then I noticed the same thing in photos of other cars. Is it possible that the yellowing is from the exhaust? This is the side for a single exhaust. Are both sides yellow on those cars with dual exhaust? I've seen some on ebay with both lenses yellow.
