305 Cubic Inch Nascar engine?

Back in 1990 I bought an NOS Superbird nosecone and wing from a guy here in Ct.
He said his father was having a 70 Road Runner made into a Superbird at Petty Enterprises back in 1970 and the NOS parts were shipped to his house here in Ct. by mistake.  He also said his father had a 305 Cubic Inch "Nascar" that was going into the "Superbird".  The other day he called and said his father sold the engine but he still has an extra intake and gave it to me.  It is a small block intake with oval ports.  My question is, does anybody know anything about this "Nascar" engine and would the intake fit anything else?   Wingnut426

The only thing I can think of is the famous "lunch pail" engine that was used in the #22 car in 1971.

Almost sounds like W2 ports.....what about Weslake heads - were they oval?

yup...that little engine would turn 10,000 rpm down the back straight

IIRC, T/A-AAR heads were considered W1 heads, and that's what was used for the "lunchbox" 305.  W2 heads weren't available in 1970,or in early 71.  I believe they came out in the mid 70's.

From the beginning it didn't seem like it was going to work...but Keith Black's organization had pretty good engine builders. They'd used smaller engines and they knew the motor. It was a whole lot lighter -- a small block, light rods, light pistons. It was a little bity motor they nicknamed the 'lunchbox'. When somebody walked up they'd say, 'Hey man, somebody left their lunchbox under your hood!"
"I got a really good line through turns one and two...I looked down and it was turning about 9,800 RPM about halfway down the straightaway! I just couldn't keep my eyes off the tach! I was just watching it and at the same time wanting to get my foot out of it. You're just thinking of the thing coming apart and cutting you all to pieces, but I got it a little over 10,000 RPM...It sounded funny...In those days with those bog old thumpers this had a little more of a whining sound. It sounded funny, but that little sucker sure would run. Running by itself it didn't do anything, but what a hoss it was when the race started!"
