I love mine. Not everybody is stuck in the past or cringes at 4 doors. I enjoy both worlds. Have had 4 doors since my '79 black and silver Caprice. Was a necessity back then. Looked at the retro Mustang when released, loved the idea, but it's a damn Ford. Bought the '06 Charger R/T, what I could afford at the time, but really wanted a SRT8. Finally got one 2 years later. Followed all of the hype on the release of the retro Challanger and Camaro. The Challenger looks most like its predecessor, but I never liked it either. The Camaro, with its stupid upside down tail lights, reminds me of a Chip Foose retro-build gone bad. I'll take my 4 door ass kicking grocery getter any day. As a side note, there will not be a 2011 Charger SRT8. It will be released in the fall of 2011 as a 2012 with a 450hp 392. Brought up the 2 door Charger point to the rep at last months Dodge Red Letter Day and was told I will really love the "NEW" 2012 SRT8, with a BIG emphasis on the word NEW. A 2 door only SRT8 maybe??

I'm a 2 door Charger, gens 1, 2 & 3, snob. These are timeless cars steeped in power. If they made the car Brass put up people would buy it in a big way, I certianly would even in this crappy economy. As for competing with the new Challenger, I think its an excuse for dropping the ball.

The 4 door is an Intrepid. 2 door Chargers are the "real deal" IMO.  :Twocents:

Let me ask you this, would you like the car just as much if they called it something else?  Did you buy it solely because it was named Charger?  I ask because a lot of people who don't like the car seem to dislike it based on the appearance and if I understand most of them correctly, the name is just more to upset.  Had it been called something else, I still wouldn't like the looks of the car and therefore would still not buy it.  The fact that Chrysler assumed by calling it Charger that I as a Charger enthusiast would automatically buy it is insulting because the car doesn't live up to the Charger heritage.
I guess what I am saying is, I think the people who dislike the car or like it, would feel the same no matter what it is called and so for those of us who feel passionate about the Charger legacy, having a car offered to us that in our opinion insults that legacy just gives us that much more resaon to be angry about it.  I would rather my passion was directed towards a car I liked and then I could get on board but as it is, they gave me something that I can only express my passion in the form of disgust.

I bought mine because of the car, not the name plate. Lets face it. If anyone was in the market for a 2 door, the only thing available were foreign or maybe a Geo or Escort. I think the 4 door was built based on market demand, not the name. There were no real performance based cars being built until the Prowler, which didn't go over very well and then the Mustang finally opened the performance market again. Then Chrysler and GM jumped on the band wagon. If the buying public doesn't demand it, how can we expect it. Think of it as making repo parts for gen 1 - 3 Chargers. If there is no interest, why make it?

Sorry about forgetting the Viper. I'm in the 1% that can't afford one.

Back N Black

If people are not looking for 2 door performance cars, why is the Mustang and the challenger so successful? If i was looking for a new Muscle car it would be a Mustang or a challenger, not a 4 door charger. Imagine if ford made a 4 door Mustang or  Chrysler a new 4 door challenger.  :rotz:

That Camaro upstart hasn't been doing all that poorly so far either.  I hear it's a two door as well?

Dont you see the similarities? ;)

Well the background seems similar but in one photo it looks all happy with blue water and brightness whereas the other seems sorta drab.

the ford is tougher looking?nooo way!i think the grill is awsome on the charger!the ford is just boring!to each his own,i guess!i would say that ford is an unmarked policecar :hah:

oh yes... the grill:

( and the new one, even closer )

about why I don't like... I have been agreed with Bull on everything he has posted allong this new Chagnum History so I don't need to repeat everything.

( yes I would drive this Chagnum over any other new car, but is not a Charger )

Why don't I like the new Chargers? Like nearly everyone else who doesn't like them, it's the styling.

So what's wrong with the styling?
IMO, the tail end is bland. The belt line is too high. The grille is fugly. The front end is too pug-nosed. The interiors suck. Other than that, the styling is fine.  ::)

There are many reasons to dislike the new charger.

The bigest by far IMO is that Chrysler has so utterly dishonored the original concept and heritage of the car.

"From FordInsideNews.com "

The Tired old Crown Victoria is dying in about a year's time, and Ford has indicated its not giving up on the rear-wheel-drive police car market. In fact, the automaker has revealed it would launch such a vehicle in 2011, making sure that there is competition for the revived RWD Chevrolet Caprice.
Our Member MonaroSS has posted this image, and we think it might be an indication of what a North American Engineered RWD police interceptor might look like.

Yeah, what were they thinking G'Damnit!!!!!! :brickwall:  :brickwall:  :brickwall:

The arguments against the current car are baseless.... This so-called "Charger" is anything but. Front wheel drive, 4cyl, Japanese made and ugly and far from what the any of the 1st 3 Gens were. If it is a "Charger", then the current one is ever more so.

No one here has ever lamented the fact that the Omni Charger hasn't been replicated. Very few even waste any time thinking about it. Do you really not understand the basis of this argument? Baseless my ass. Seems to me you're just trying to piss people off.

The newer Charger may be a decent car in general, but I put it in the same category as that last GTO that Pontiac offered. It didn't have much character & someone could walk right past it & not even notice it.

Remember the 1999 concept charger.  The new charger car looks cool or can look cool with some mods but they should just called it a magnum enforcer or something.  I liked the concept charger back then but again the 4 door thing is just wrong.

I don't get it. everyone is so in love with the 99 concept car.  IT HAS 4 DOORS!!!! ( oh and notice the crosshair grille).  once again that car was never meant to be built, it was a styling exercise, only.  it was based on the old LH platform (read Intrepid, Concord). when it was introduced, Chrysler was starting the LX program (rear wheel drive with shared components from Daimler).  they were planning on replacing LH with LX, so that concept car was old news before it hit the show circuit.

the bottom line is if they called it something else then charger, most people would be happy with it! :2thumbs: i like them a lot! :nana:
just delete the charger name and call them simply srt-8 and magnum enforcers the rest!!!

One more reason I don't like the newer Charger......I've personally NEVER seen anybody actually get pulled over to have someone snap a pic of it....

This has happened in my Big 'ol Orange '69, with a BIg ass "01" on both doors......Good luck with that new Charger ever becoming what the "Original" one is today...
