Fuel squirting out of vent...why?

So I finally got my engine to running today. I'm sure I have a lot of tuning ahead of me, but the problem I'm having now is that there is fuel coming out of the front fuel bowl vent. It's just squirting right out of there while the engine is running. Now, I was trying to do my break-in since it's the first time this engine has been started since the re-build, so I had to keep it going for a while. I just held the throttle open right on the carb to my best approximation of about 2000 RPM while keeping the vent plugged with my finger....I didn't want to start a fire. I did shut it down twice before I figured out how I was going to go about it completing the break-in, so I hope I didn't do any damage by doing that. Any advice you guys can give will be greatly appreciated.

Adam, check your float level....it's too high if you're sending fuel up the vent tube. I like to breakin a new build at 2500 for 25-30 minutes with the occasional "blip" of the throttle to promote lifter rotation.

I couldn't get my float level low enough...thought maybe I had a bad float so I swapped back to my old carb...a Holley 750...had the same problem. So I figured at that point my fuel pressure was too high so I bought and installed a fuel pressure regulator and gauge...all is well. I think I've got the engine broken in, but now I've got other problems. My new hydraulic clutch isn't working (can't put her into gear), when I connect my battery, the horn starts honking. My headlight are always open (hideaways) but off, and none of my gauges work. I've also got an oil leak from somewhere that is dripping onto the back part of my headers that I can't find the source of. And, I'm out of gas But, at least I've got a running motor. My next suggestion (after float level check) was going to be fuel pressure....but you found it and corrected the issue 

If all the guages are non functional it's more than likely a ground issue with the guage cluster itself. Try using a small jumper wire from the cluster to the dash frame. 

The horn button is stuck in the on position or the relay is bad.

Oil could be coming from the valvecovers or oil pressure sending unit....check both 

The engine sounds good !
