I called this guy 2 times. I do belive the car is real, but the owner has no fender tag and no build sheet. He did say he has the IBM card, which I think Chrysler stopped using in 1967. He had the car inspected by Galen Govier. He bought the car from the original owner, who knows that he has both the build sheet and fender tag, but cannot find them. I find it hard to buy this car, it's a great price, but without the fender tag and build sheet, I just cannot do it. :shruggy:

Check stamping on radiator suport and rear lip of trunk for VIN number. Plus motor should have VIN stamped on it as well. I would put more faith in those items than a build sheet or fender tag.

This guy said Galen spent about 4 hours looking over the car. Its not that I do not believe it's real. Without the fender tag and build sheet, it's hard to buy it. It's driving me crazy.

IBM cards ended in 1967.  :yesnod:

He's being sloppy with facts to make a sale. Not a good salesman, but also not proof of dishonesty either.

I'm confused. What's new. ::)

Govier states that he does decode and validations only with the original and authentic fender tag and BS. Yet there isn't either available. Is the seller saying that GG made an exception for him and this car?

The seller says its been repainted. Whats kinda strange is, that its optioned with a luggage tray and rear stripe. I thought luggage rack nulls the stripe. 50 grand is still 50 grand, and that is a huge bet on someone finding the fender tag and build sheet.

There were still IBM cards after that but they were used for quality control on certain areas of the car.

For that car, which will need a total restoration, I question whether 49 large REALLY a good price? Look at it this way; find out what a fully restored car is worth in today's market, then figure out what you believe the restoration expenses will cost you. Once you've done that, add 25-35%. Of course don't bother adding your labor because it aint worth squat.

The Guru's performed a Vulcan mind meld with the car.

It's the longitudinal stripe coded, not the bumblebee.

If we were in a better financial state I'd be all over that car.  ;)

Dang sure is one hell of a deal though, can't stop thinking about it.  :brickwall:

April 15th SPD with that VIN number?  Surprised the Guru didn't pick up on that.....Doesn't look right to me.....Anyone else have a later St. Louis built 70?

obviously there was a fender tag when the car was looked at by Galen if you look at the paperwork there are all the codes of the tag may have been inspected when a previous owner had and this seller has the paerwork, but the tag was removed and misplaced just a theory.

maxwellwedge

He will do a report if you read the numbers to him on the phone.....This is a tag report not a visual inspection.

I thought the report was from Galen making up the tag & Diane asking him or the owner to review it so it could be sent off to Backeast for a tag to be made?

Perhaps that's why the SPD is off as Jim mentioned.  He's guessing & using the cars he has in his database to come up with numbers?

Must be a Chevy guy, looks like traction bars on it. I agree, for that kind of money I would look at it in person.

Does it even have a drivetrain in it?  If so, is it #'s matching?

Did you miss the CL link at the top? It shows the ad and it states #s matching

Doh, sorry 'bout that.  I'm just a middle man asking questions for my buddy who's puter illiterate.

I'll email him a brow beatin'.   ;)

After looking a little closer what's with the A04 code?

Why do people selling Hemi cars not show an engine shot.  :slap:  I'm not crazy about the look of the car.  :Twocents:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Are we talking about these "IBM" cards? Some may be getting the certicard confused with the IBM punch computer card. The punch cards like this definitely didn't end in '67. Here's a picture of the original IBM punch card out of my former '71 Charger R/T survivor I found on the passenger front floor pan.
