Anyone here own an SRT-10 Dodge truck?

A friend of mine wants a bit of a hot rod truck but he also wants something that will tow a small motorcycle trailer. He's afraid an SRT-10 Dodge might be too much for what he wants but since he's not a Mopar guy I'm always trying to push him in the Mopar direction. He would buy a Dodge though since he pretty much always buys American but he tends to lean toward Chevy/GMC. Do you think an SRT-10 would be too much for a semi-daily driver during the summer months?

I found a 2005 on CL with 23k miles for $24k. Is that a good price? Maybe I should nudge him toward the Dakota R/T instead. :scratchchin:

I had one for 3 months. Torque monster... But it ate gas like there was no tomorrow... Killer daily driver, but a total pig..

I sold mine for an SST Ram and was MUCH happier with it, so yeah, a Dakota R/T would be a good move.

I had one for 5 years and loved it, I traded it in on my mecedes. Mine had 20k Miles when I traded it in and was in pefect condition. The dealer didn't give me near that for trade in. 17.5k
I did try to sell it on ebay and never got any bites, It was not an easy truck to sell even though it was just as clean as the day I picked it up off the showroom floor. I asumed the market for them was pretty small so I decided to just trade it in on the car I wanted.
As far as the truck it was nice, the power was nice but nothing crazy. Only drawback As an DD was I got sick of shifting. It was a tough truck, I don't drive much but I drove it in the winter also. Never gave me a single problem.
If I could go back I would have never traded it in. The Benz is a lot faster as a daily driver, but it's not as practical as a DD, and costly to maintain.

Nice little Dak is hard not to love! V-10 is awesome ride though....no Chevy. Friends don't let friends buy them....

I think the factory info says the SRT 10 has a lower weight towing capacity than the other Rams or other 5.7 equipped rides.  Great to drive but not in any way justifiable as practical.  I love my RumbleBee and have a trailer behind it about half the time.  If I was only towing a motorcycle trailer I'd probably look at a Dakota and spend my money on other toys.

Mine was an 04. I think in 05 they started making the quad cab version with an auto and tow package. That might work better for him. If not there's the ford lighning and silverado SS. Both nice trucks as well. The silverado SS looks sharp and the most practical, but not nearly as quick as the lightning or SRT.

Seems he's decided on buying a new base model Chevy or GMC now, even though he first told me he wanted a "hot rod" truck. I wouldn't exactly call a short wide base model 2wd truck a hot rod but that's the direction he's headed. This guy has a hard time making decisions when it comes to cars but the funny thing is that the only car he's ever regretted selling was a 74 Duster.

You tried that's what counts! He's most likely getting a real good deal right now on a new one.  :2thumbs:

Yea, I think if he gets one he'll get the most basic 2wd short wide V8 for around $21k. GMC IIRC.
