I can't afford a new Challenger or a new Camaro as long as I'm pumping money into my 70 RR...but, I'm in need of a new (to me) daily driver. My '04 SRT4 is still a great car but I'm wanting something else.

I've come across an '04 Z06 for $22K with 55,000 miles on it, 6spd...seems to be in good condition..does anyone have any experience with these? Are they decent daily drivers? I know they are fast but how well do they hold up? Anyone ever driven one?

Btw, I have no kids and no need for a trunk.....and there is NO way it can ride rougher than my SRT. LOL!

you could get an 08 or 09 Pontiac g8 with 20-40k on it in your price range....If you want 50-60k miles on a g8, you could probably get it for less and have enough left over to put it in new camaro territory performance wise.  awesome daily driver, lots of aftermarket goodies since it's got a lot in common with the camaro...  I'm partial because I got an 09 with 17K on it over the summer.  Best car I ever had.

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea because the copied some design elements of a BMW 5 series, but it's a sleeper for sure.  I got a guy the other day in a supercharged shelby mustang.. if it was a fair fight he'd have left me standing there, but because im in a 4 door, I was able to sneak up on him and I tree'd that MF at the light! lol  what's that I read, if you find yourself in a fair fight your tactics suck?  yep pretty much.

still, a zo6 is one sweet ride, but just can never justify a two seater... something in me just cant

Yea...I've been drooling over G8's for a while now.  :scratchchin:

My lil SRT4 has great power but everything else on it is cheapo..I'm def ready for a v8! I've seen slightly used non-supercharged CTS-V's for 25Kish...but I'm thinking they may be a lot like the G8's under the hood.

I guess the best thing to do is research and look at as many cars as I can to get a good feel for what I like and don't like...the power in the z06 is what attracts me to it cuz I'm not a huge vette guy.

The only think I know is I won't drive a Ford so that will narrow down the possiblities a little more..

My dad just bought a '06 z06 (50th anniversary) and it is sweet as hell.  Never been a big fan of vetts but I understand how so many people are after driving it.

I bet that is a sweet ride! I LOVE the new bodystyle...if the one I'm looking at was a C6 I'd buy it in a heartbeat..the C5 is nice too but I'd be buying for the 405HP and around 3100lbs it's prolly spooky fast.

Im not certain, but the ctsv might be a zeta platform car like the camaro and g8.  sure looks similar enough to a g8 bodywise.

The car I sold when I started my car was an 04 Z06... The car is an ANIMAL. I had mine for 3 years never had ONE ISSUE with it. It's light, it's comfortable, and (compared to my 95 ZR1) it's SPACIOUS.  Sure, it's a raw beast, and isn't good for winter driving, but for a DD if you can get that for $22k?? JUMP ON IT. I sold mine with 50k for $30k 2.5years ago.

  True.  I figured between the G8 and Z06 it was the better choice for a childless single man.  It's no Charger and I wouldn't buy one for myself but it's way better than going rice IMHO.

Don't understand what people see in the G8?  Isn't that, that cookie cutter typical grand am looking sort of car?  Does less than nothing for me.  The vette is truly the real Mc coy.

Ghoste

I'm with you.  I admire the performance of the G8 but Pontiac lost touch with people a while ago when it comes to styling.  They were truly puzzled the new GTO wasn't a smash hit.  The worst had to be the Aztek, it pretty much foretold the death of Pontiac.

DC_1

Stay in the Mopar camp........stick with your SRT4. It has cool factor and will be way better on fuel and insurance than the "mid life crisis" vett would be.

Brock Samson

I dunno, I'd be looking at something with some room and would wanna stay Mopar...
BTW: The G-8 is comming back as a Chevy, shame about Pontiac,.. Saturn, Hummer, even Olds was sad but they had no Product,.. But having to Axe Ponchos was a crying shame, If it wasn't for Buick sales in China, Opels and Holdens being re-badged and sold here as Buicks, Chevies and Cadds. GM would be up crap creek without a paddle.
Funny they needed to deep six the SKY and Solstice, those little sportsters were only a couple years on the market, I liked seeing them around.  :shruggy: Also the Caddy SRX (a Vette under the skin) now has $10K cash back..  :yesnod:

The z06 has the bang for the buck factor...if I don't get it I may wait till after new years and sell the srt and put a good down payment on a '10 Camaro SS.  I'd rather have an SS than the comparable in price challenger RT.

Ditto   , if it was a midlife crisis car for me I'd best get partying like a rock star cause I don't have much time left!! I love those stereo types...

But, one thing I have to laugh at, is when I went to shows with my Z, I'd pull in to see the group of 60's men in their polo shirts and sun-visor caps sitting there wondering who the young guy was driving his Dad's Vette...   :brickwall:

Challenger SRT8 over the Camero for me....without a doubt. :2thumbs:

Tho a little over the top, there are some 1999-2003 Vipers with low milege for 30-35K and some earlier vipers like (my fav year 1996) for 25K in "like new" condition. Also, Ram SRT10's can be had for 20-25k with hardly any miles on them. Obviously, I'm not looking for a beater just to trash on..now is a good time to pick up cars that in time will be very collectable. And yes I totally believe cars of today will be classics in the future.

Not that my neon srt is highly sought after, it is fairly rare...2000 or so '04's in electric blue were made. Yellow '04's are super rare cuz the yellow was discontinued in '04 and they just used up left over paint...maybe 200 (or less) were yellow in '04. Sorry for the history lesson I just find automotive stats interesting..I'm a sucker for rare options.
