well i just bough a 750 holly for my 440 this summer.  i put it on after the eng had a new cam, heads cleaned up, intake and that kind of stuff to make sure she ran well since it was my first time changing a cam ad stuff...then i yanked it out to work on the body, but my car's body wasnt finished this summer.  so imm wondering whats the best way to protect my new carb, so it will not need a rebuild later down the road from sitting, since its still new.?????
-thanks Ray

I'd think clean it out (remove all the gasoline in it) and wrap in a plastic bag and store it in a clean enviroment. Maybe inside the house or a controlled enviroment. Keeping it clean I think would be the key.

Sealed from moisture.  Anyone ever try storing one with one of those little dessicant baggies that come in some shipping containers?

I was just going to post a similar question but saw this thread but it all relates so I hope I can add mine into the mix.

I was always told that when storing a carb, an AFB in my case that you should drain it, and wrap it well but I was also told that storing it upside down was a good idea too. Supposedly to keep the floats from hanging and everything from somehow settling??
I was also told that a shot or two of WD-40 or equivalent around the pumps, the vents etc is good.

Does this make sense or is it an old mechanics tale?

I don't think any of it could hurt.  I think that gaskets and pump seals and son forth will dry over the long turn anyway and I also would want to reset everything before using it again.  But I do also think any of those things would help.

What i've done in the past for long term storage : Drain the bowls, accelerater pumps, squirters of gas. Replace with mineral spirits to keep the seals & gaskets from drying out. Store indoors in a climate controlled environment. Fog the carb & linkage with a light coating of wd-40 and seal in a plastic bag.

The floats on my front carb on the GTX stuck really bad after last Winter because I forgot to drain it. I had a neat surprise when I turned on the fuel pump the next time. :o

This year I pulled both off the car and did pretty much what Ron said except no mineral spirits and they are upside down to be safe.
Guess I should do the mineral spirits soon to be safe.
