John Lennon was murdered in NYC by a crazed fan. In spite of his hippie politics and his hag of a wife, there is no denying how much Lennon's music meant (and still means), and how much he touched people.  His death was a great loss to the music world.

Man I can't believe it's been 30 years already!!!
John Lennon was such an amazing man with songwriting talent that certainly surpasses many of today's commended artists.

I remember the night it happened, me and my girlfriend(now wife) were in the car listening to the radio, and they had breaking news that John Lennon was shot. We thought WOW, wtf, couldn't believe it. RIP John, 30 years later........

I was watching Monday Night Football when Howard Cosell made the announcement.  Didn't catch the end of the game, just shut the TV off.

The saddest part of Lennon's murder was that he left a young family behind and a young son to grow up with out a father. Personally, and I mean no disrespect, I never understood the appeal of The Beatles, I spent the day listening to Pantera and Damageplan, Dime was murdured in a similar manner on this same date in 2004.
