What is your most interesting Charger...

What is your most interesting Dodge Charger inspection/pre-purchase/or purchase story?  :popcrn:

The thread I started about "settling" for a Charger or not got me thinking - I have looked at lots of Chargers over the years and they all seemed to have a story...

Was it the misrepresentation?

Was it the location/storage of the car?

Was it the owner and their character?

What was it about your deal that made it interesting? :popcrn:

My car looks like it came out of a johnny cash song.

Here is one of my favorite stories:

QuoteAround 1997, I found an R4 Red 1969 R/T SE console auto, V88 car w/ black top/interior in TN. Was going to drive the truck and trailer to see it however, I decided I'd drive my '87 Grand National, instead...

Raining the whole way, it took about 6 hours to get to Bristol. When I arrived, my friend and I scoured the car and thought it was decent. Guy was asking $12k. The car had some rust issues not mentioned and the radiator leaked in the core. Under the car, the numbers matched however, that was when we spotted the rare, "dual floorboard option"  ::) Guy said the two patches of sheetmetal over the floor holes was a Chrysler engineering detail - "they installed dual floorboards for long term protection on rust through"  :o

I eventually  made an offer which climbed to $7,900 for the car - That's when I was informed, a "big time collector from NC was coming on Monday to buy the car" But if I wanted to trade my GN, he might consider... ::)

Anyways, On Tuesday of the following week, the seller called and said I could have the car for $7,900. In hindsight, I should have bought the car, enjoyed it for awhile, and... Like I said, anyways... :slap:

I wasn't driving back to deal with the guy after all that...

First, the car involved.

Went to look at this '73 Rallye 340 Arizona Charger the saturday before Thanksgiving of 2009 near Orlando, only 2 hours from home. Settled on a price and then was refused on a check for deposit with cash the following week. It was saturday afternoon. Was told he did wire transfer only. I said ok, never did one before but I was game. Got the cash and the run around the next week. Was told all was ok, but the brother in law down for the holiday was upset the car wasn't offered to him. After another week of bull stories, I gave up. The middle of December, I find a base yellow '73 Rallye 318 in Wisconson and email the seller and gave a little info on the gray Charger. Received a quick reply with a phone number to call. Turns out the guy in Wisconson bought the gray '73 2 days after I tried to buy it and had no idea anyone else was interested. Wasn't mentioned by the seller either. I was offered the gray '73, the reason for selling the yellow '73 was because of its purchase. I was ready to jump but then the yellow one sells and now no need to let the gray go. I end up buying my '73 SE a week later. This spring the gray goes up for sale again but now way out of my price range. Talked to the seller several times, real nice guy, but no sale. I still wanted another Charger and waited and waited and waited and bingo, came across a '74 440 Rallye Aztec. I thought I lost this one also as the seller took almost 2 months to get back to me, but 4 days later it was in my garage. Ended up I got the '74 for less than the original price of the '73, half the miles and only a hand full built. Now I'm a happy camper.

Cool story on the gold one and the gray one -

THE STIG

After I found the 70 that would eventually become mine in a classified ad on eBay, I put it in my "watch list" but it was a little out of my affordability range so I waited to see what would happen. It went through a couple of cycles and eventually he listed it in an auction but it kept popping back up, then it disappeared for about 3 weeks, then popped back up in a classified ad. One day my wife was macking fun of me and reminded me of when we were first together how I used to talk about how one day I would get a 70 Charger with a Hemi, I took it as a sign. My wife dosen't know the difference between a Hemi and a 440 anyway.
