Hi all: My 69 project update. I've got the small amount of body work done that was required (no rust) and have done a complete color change from the previous purple back to the original R4 red . Now reassembly begins. Pics attatched

Hi Lexxman: As this is not a rottisery resto I scuffed and painted the undercarriage semi-gloss black, it looks great! Good luck with your paint, hopefully we'll both be done in time for summer cruise season.      Rob

Hey,Rob did you paint the inside of the car as well? Are you going stock with it or custom?
Lexxman: I painted the inside semi gloss black as well and shot the trunk pans and all the floors with truck bedliner for a little sound deadening as well as super moisture protection. I'm doing the interior stock white as it came from the factory. I had a 69 back in the early seventies that was this same R4 red with black vinyl top and deck stripe with a white interior, it looks awsome! It has a basically stock 440/375 hp torqflite and I'm doing some port matching and smoothing on the heads right now, rebuild and torker intake, MP electronic ignition, hooker comp headers, electric pump at the tank as well as carter mechanical on engine. 8.75 rear has 3:55 gears and Moser axles with pinion snubber. Should be a nice street cruiser. I'm thinking of 15 inch Tork thrust 2 wheels as well.   Rob

Hey sounds about what I plan for mine.I was going to paint the whole car,but then I started think( a dangerous think) I plan to undercoat the bottom. and know one is going to see the inside. The previous own already paint the underside black and now I plan to spray the inside with por-15.So the only place I will be painting other then the outside is the trunk and I will paint that myself .And a paint shop will finish the outside.

Good idea I think, for a regularly driven street car you don't really need a body color underside, just as long as it looks decent.   :Twocents:

A few more pics. The project is SLOWLY taking shape, however, seeings how we have 4 more months of snow left I should have her up and running for summer. I'm starting to get the underhood area done, brake lines, etc. Got the tranny finished and now I'm into the 440. The engine is a low miler since the last rebuild and it looks like a minor freshening up is all thats required. I'm also port matching and smoothing the heads and intake. Am awaiting arival of my comp cam and lifter set XE268H .477/.480 lift  268/280 duration. I'll be runnng a Mopar performance electronic ign., Hooker competition ceramic coated headers, Edelbrock performer intake and carb with a 3.55 sure grip. This should be a nice street setup. Happy holidays to all.      Rob

Hi Dave: I hope to have the engine done and eng/trans in before the end of January, then I have to rebuild and install the dash, so I figure to fire it up in February then on to the headliner install (yikes) and the vinyl top, deck stripe, glass and trim items. I'm also thinking of a set of Tork thrust 2's with B.F. Goodrich T/A's  :yesnod:   Rob

Sorry it's been a while since the last post, been busy at work and working on the charger when I can. Got the motor together and installed, had a header fittment problem :brickwall:, hope the new ones arrive soon. Also have the tailpanel and rear bumper finished as well as all the glass and hardware in the doors and quarters, that all went very well. dissassembled and painted the dash and hope to have that back in by the end of this week. Then I've got to tackle the vinyl top and headliner install, I have never done these before and am a little apprehensive. Pics to follow. Cheers everyone.   Rob

Hey,Rob.It looks like your really coming along.I was just out prepping to shot some primer on the D/S 1/4. Looking at yours is like looking into the future. I'm not sure if I would do the vinyl top myself or not. Make sure you have help, did you see the episode of CCR where they installed the top?

I'm actually looking forward to the vinyl top installation, after the headliner that should be a breeze

Hi Dave: No I didn't see that episode, but I've been studying other videos and tutorials on the subject. Just get at your car and keep at it and before long it will be done. It seems daunting to look at the whole task at once but just concentrate on one thing at a time. Of course that's easy for me to say now that I'm this far along, but back in May I was in the same position as you. Good luck and keep wrenching.    Rob

Hi Bigblock: The wheels that are on it now were on the car when I bought it, they are 15 x 8  centerline warriors with TA radials. Nice wheels but I think I prefer the 5 spoke look, however, I'm going to run them for the first season and we will see. I will try to get some closer pics posted soon.     Rob

Hi Rob,
Yes, glue the vinyl down into the window channels. Then screw the molding clips directly over & thru the vinyl. Do not notch the top.

Well, winter is progressing and so is the charger. I got a new set of Hedman Elite headers and they fit really good, the only thing I had to do was install a .125 shim on the motor mount to correct a to close to the steering box condition. So I'm hooking all the wiring/ fuel lines/ etc up right now :icon_smile_cool: Hope to start her up next week and break in the new cam, then on to the vinyl top install  I will post some pics when the engine is finished.       Rob

OK, so I finished the headliner, installed carpet, seats, consul, door panels, etc. Put on wheel well trim, trunk seal and carpet, then I installed the stripe. I was a little intimidated but followed advice from this forum and it turned out perfect! I just could not get the power brakes to work properly so I took off the booster and put a master cylinder from a 75 dart manual dics/drum car. They work now but I think this winter I am going to put a hydrobooster on.
