CornDogsCharger

My friend is doing a '69 R/T Charger for a guy.  This car was originally R4 red, red interior, stripe delete, and no vinyl top..... just total red all over with "R/T" badges on the quarters.  It is a 440 auto car too.  In my opinion it was a good looking car and not something you would see everyday.  The owner wants to change the color out but my friend is trying to convince him into putting the car back the way it was when it left the factory.  He was wondering if I could try to find some production numbers based on the color/interior combo that might convince him into changing his mind.  Does anyone know where I can find these production #'s?  Thanks for your help!

R-4 with red interior was not a recomended color combo , so it had to be special ordered and signed off on .

You are correct!
R-6 red however was acceptable with red interior

Currently I have only (1) R/T auto car, no vinyl top but white stripe that is R4 red with red interior.  It also has the V08 code on the tag (variance)
This car was spotted @ a car show in Canada and is a built for Canadian export car.

I have another auto R/T optioned like this except white top & stripe.

I also have 5 XP model cars as well but 3 have black tops & 2 have white.

Get your friend to register the car.....it would be the first stripe delete hard top!  ;)

that is an extremely odd car, very cool but odd. paint it back original.

Very interesting info.  Thanks guys!  The car is missing it's fender tag but the owner "thinks he might know where it is"... along with the build sheet.  This dude loves Mopars... and always has, but is clueless when comes to the importance of tags and buildsheets.  I guess you could say he is out of the loop.  You can tell the car has been rode VERY hard through it's life, but now it is receiving a full blown restoration as it should.  I'll be sure to get pictures when I visit my friend again.  I'll probably drive over there on Saturday.  As I mentioned before, the car was rough.  It is getting all new rear sheetmetal with full quarters, fenders, hood, even the upper cowl panel.  At some point, the car was wrecked on the right front which caused damage to the cowl and apron.  He told a story that reminded me of something you would see in American Graffiti.  He said he was showing off in a parking lot one time and punched the gas... not knowing that the car was in reverse.  He backed into a telephone pole..... hence the need for new sheetmetal in the rear.

The reason the owner wanted to change the color of the car is because he said it was what he called burgundy.  I could see where the car was once painted burgundy but I looked around in a few other spots that most likely wouldn't be painted.  I kept seeing pretty red.... like Coca Cola red.  So that's what I'm calling R4.  Looking inside the trunk compartment you can see signs of where the R/T badge once was (now bondoed over) and looking in the sail panel area, you can see where the panel was never drilled for the vinyl top trim.  I will be sure to get pictures next time around.  Thanks again for your help guys!!!

If thats the case "Coca Cola" red is more like R6 which is a blood red.....
R4 is a bright red-orange

This is an example of R6 exterior with the C6R red interior

This is the R4 exterior with the C6R red interior (sorry so small)

You can see that the R6 "matches" the interior much better

R4 Bright Red exterior

R6 Dark Red exterior

Now that you posted that... I'm betting it was R6 then.  I looked at my paint sample chart and R6 looked much darker.  If it was R6, and the options are as I mentioned, is it still uncommon?

Not as common as black interior cars but not as uncommon as the R4/red combo.... :rotz:
