need to order rings to go with the set of Speed Pro ZL2355F30 six-pack repro pistons i decided on. any recommendations on the mfg? 440 source only sells Total Seal stuff, and summit doesn't have a much larger selection. Who has everyone had good luck with in the past?

Thanks,
Matt

I used sealed power moly rings on my 440, mancini sells em.

Did you order the 2355's yet? Chances are you wont find em...theve been on back order for i think a few years now.

I went with Icon 9953 pistons

http://www.kb-silvolite.com/icon/fhr.php?action=details&P_id=593

The weight is wrongly listed but they are lighter than the 6 pack replacements and are a nice quality piston (icon makes pistons for KB)

Got em from mancini for around 400$

thanks, I'll check out the Icons if I can't get the six-pack set. Summit lists estimated ship date just after Christmas, but it could be way off.

Call em first, I called everyone and there mother and no one had em nor could they get them. Only way to get em is if someone has stock lying around.

Hmmm, I ordered mine 11-30 and they told me I would have them 12-17.  Just confirmed on the phone they were expected in 12-15.  I still have to get the rings too.  Looking at these ones http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SLP-R-922435/
Now I got to figure whether to use the old rods or what to order for new ones.  Did you get new ones to go with your pistons?

:shruggy: Summit has a way of pushing there dates forward after you order. I canceled an order for the same piston last week after being put off for seven months.

I called summit, and initially they said they'd have them in in two weeks... but with a little more needling, the guy admitted that it was contingent upon their supplier having them in stock--and he admitted that he had no info either way on that.

I'm probably going to end up with a nice set of flat hypers. the engine i'm building isn't going to be thrashed on much, and i'm setting it up for a nice chunk of low end power rather than a lumpy carb and loose converter

just sticking with the stock LY rods, gonna clean them up but stock 440 rods are good to at least 500 hp, and i've heard of people stressing them a lot more. getting a set of ARP rod bolts though

I hope that's not the case this time. I have a lot of stuff to order.  I had the valve keepers and retainers for the 440 Source heads in a couple days of ordering them and the pistons at the same time.  My block has been sitting at the machine shop waiting on them for the bore job.  I'll post an update on the 17th.

I went through with this with the six pack replacements, the icon are the replacements for the 6 pack replacements. My engine builder commented that they look like a very stout piston and build quality was very good. They sat .010 under with my decked block.

I also used stock ly rods with ARP bolts, the icons are lighter and even though the ly rods would be fine regardless, the lighter piston does help eliminating some extra stress.

Take me to school.  What's the "ly" stand for?

FLG

Besides just being the standard RB connecting rod, i have no idea why there stamped "LY"

Use the matching speedpro plasma moly rings  :2thumbs:

The LY is just a factory stamping as far as i know.
