Hello,

I found out that it is pretty difficult to find good decoder for 67-68 Fender Tags. I wrote my own, which is by no means perfect, but should work pretty well with Mopar B-Bodies. Please try it and give feedback. If you know something that decoder doesn't, please let me know and I'll update it.

To use it: just allign codes to corresponding places. Fill bottom line by using single space in between sequences.

I just tried it for my '68 Charger.  What information it gave me was dead on correct, but there were a lot of "unknown options".  Still, it correctly identified the car, the engine and transmission configuration, the radiator size and the birth date   :icon_smile_approve:

Hey janimm, if you make one for 1966 as well, you'll be filling a huge void in the online tag decoding needs.

Dave22443, could you give me the unknows option codes and the correct ones. I can then update the decoder.

Yes, I have plans of making other decoders too. I just wan't to finish this one first. Any help is appreciated. BTW: I tried to design this one in a way that it can be used with mobile phone. Its pretty handy when you can check tags anywhere.  :) If you have mobile phone with internet access, please try it.

Janimm,  here is what your program reported for my information:

Unfortunately, I do not have a good resource for decoding 1968 fender tags, but here are the numbers I input from my fender tag.  Maybe someone else can help decode them better?

Line 1 = 50 6
Line 2 = 1 11 16
Line 3 = 50 8 4 C6X 661 B
Line 4 = XP29 62 5 43 518 122913

If it helps, here are some of the known options I am aware of that I believe were original to this particular car.

383 4V Automatic
Center Console
Black vynal interior
Black Vynal top
Air Conditioning
Manual all Drum brakes
Power steering
Exterior color was dark green

Of course, after nearly 40 years and half a dozen owners, I could be wrong on some of these.  Hope this helps.

I think you didn't allign the codes to corresponding letters. Use some extra spaces to position your numbers exactly below the "abc..." or "ABC..." lines. For example, if your tag has number 6 underneath letter 'a', use two empty spaces to allign number six underneath letter 'a'.

Another example; 3rd. row: use extra spaces to allign your number 4 underneath A, also allign C6X under TRM, and so on. Decoder starts to know much more about your car...  :)

EDIT: I added some instructions and an "Example" button. If you can't see them, use F5 to re-load the page.

My interior decoded as INTERIOR: Charger Trim Grade, White and Black Vinyl Bucket Seats.  what did this look like?  white seats with black pleats in the middle?

Dave22443

Janimm,

I noticed on these posts and in the listing you give under your own "Have you seen this car..." posting that your decoder does not appear to be able to handle tire codes?  I have a service manual that lists these codes if you don't already have them?  The tire code is the 4th code in the bottom line accourding to my book.

CODE   TIRE SIZE              Availability
33       7.35x14                Std. base Charger
42       7.75x14 BSW        Opt. base Charger only (standard w/383 Air, or w/towing pkg)
43       7.75x14 WSW       Opt. base Charger only
44       F70x14  RSW         Std. GTX, Super Bee, Road Runner, Charger R/T & Coronet R/T
45       F70x15  RSW         Std. 426 Hemi cars only
46       F70x14  WSW       Opt. no cost with F70x14
51       8.25x14 BSW        Opt. base Charger only
52       8.25x14 WSW       Opt. base Charger only

P.S. Making this work for cell phones was a GREAT idea! :2thumbs:

As far as I know, in the UBS, code under 'U' should be a letter, not number. ???

Ups, a little misspell... It means White Vinyl Bucket Seats with black carpet and dash. I'll fix that...

sharpspike

looks like a 8 to me, but im old and blind. what do you think.

janimm

Yes, it really looks like an 8, but actually, a 'B' would make more sense. You have black interior, and 'B' under 'U' means that interior side of the doors are painted black. That would match the interior.

sharpspike

ill buy that. like i said old and blind. again good work.

note to self: 8's and B's look alike :drool5:

Thank you! I fixed the tire codes, but it still doesn't recognise the 3 number tire codes (usually on 67 tags). Does anybody know where to find those?

worked perfect for mine.

Is your car from Canada?  It looks like the f7 could be:

667 Taxi Package Canada
677 Built for xport order
687 Export new car service-Domestic Dealer
697 Special Driveaway
707 Corporate Leasing Systems Car-Quebec Dealer

Or maybe none of the above.

janimm

I'm happy it works this well  ;D  I'll do some research on f7 option and add it to decoder when I find more info.

Rolling_Thunder

dont think so....   purchased in Auburn, CA and has a mph speedo....    not kph

We didn't get metricated up here until the mid 70's, RT, so don't go by the speedo.

hmmmmm   ok...    anything else i can look for ?

Just the export codes on the fender tag or original documentation showing it to be from a Canadian dealer.  Anytime you see a kph speedo for one of our cars, it's from Europe (or Australia too I believe).

Rolling_Thunder

oh - ok...    well....    can anyone comfirm the "f7" code is for an export car ?

I can't find any export codes for f.  Is f for police options like the 67's?  For 68 export codes to Canada, I only see them as being under the t.

janimm

I could not find any info about the "f7" code... Sorry  :-\
