Who are the tool box manufacturers today?  Aside from Snap On and Craftsman and so on it seems like it's hard to find an "independent".

"Kobalt" seems to be getting more popular...along with Mac & Matco...Cornwell...and then there is the cheap ones that Harbor Freight sells

Been through Mac's site.  I'm looking for an odd sized side cabinet and I think I'm just going to be out of luck.

This is a company in Kansas that makes boxes that are just as good as the big names but much cheaper.  I don't have one yet, but I will be ordering one soon.  http://www.montezumamfg.com/

Say what you will, but I've for the harbor freight box and like it much betterthan my old snap on box. It seems heavier duty and the drawer hold more weight than the snap on one I had, granted it was a older box.

I have a Snap-on road box I bought back in 1980. I used to wax it every week when I first got it....Till my dumb ass dropped it out of the back of the truck.  :brickwall:

FWIW.....i was told once by a snap-on dealer that almost every american tool box is made by one of two different companies.  If I remember correctly he told me that the company that makes the snap-on boxes is the same company that makes the craftsman boxes, and so on and so forth.
Remember the average response time to a 911 call is over 4 minutes.

The average response time of a 357 magnum is 1400 FPS.

I have two Snap-On boxes, an Airport Cabinet from the 50's which belonged to a Transmission guy until he retired, and a larger one from the 90's I bought lightly used. As a full-time professional mechanic, I wouldn't own any box besides Snap-On, MAC or Matco (I don't prefer MAC or MATCO). Cornwell used to make pretty nice boxes, and if I just needed a hobby garage box Husky, Harbor Freight or Craftsman would probably work just fine and leave money for whatever you're actually working on.

Proto tool boxes are junk. At work I was told to order a Proto box because the boss thought it was commercial grade. I finally threw it away. Cardboard box filled with Ziploc bags works better than that junk.

I've got older craftsman. I've paid a lot for it compared to HF tool box, which is more value for less money
