Yesterday I pulled the charger on the trailer after my 2003 ram pickup. It's got the 5.7 Hemi engine with a 4X4 if that's important.
After approx 100 miles I stopped at a red light and when turning green and giving throttle it was just like the auto transmission started to slipp,
the car wouldn't almost move for several seconds. after that he slowly started to pull again and I could continue but at the next stopligt, standing
waiting on idle a red Z within brackets ligts up on the dashboard but dissapears when giving throttle.
After this I didn't have anymore trouble getting home but would could it have been? can it be the catalytic converter starting to age/getting full of s**t?

5.7 Hemi's are throttle-by-wire.  When you push on the accelerator you are not moving the throttle plate, instead you are just moving a throttle position sensor which tells the powertrain  control module how much power you want. Then the HAL 9000  (PCM) has the throttle motor open the actual throttle.

According to my 2004 owners manual The ) Z (  light means the PCM has detected a fault . A scan of the system will tell.. You might have a sticky/carboned up throttle valve, try cleaning it .

Dave I'm afraid I can't do that.

I have the same truck as you do and it has happend to me a couple of times. When it has happen i just turn it off and then back on and if not you can unplug the sensor on your throttle body and reconnect it.  It has also happen while i was on the highway but i just pop it in neutral turn it off and turn it back and resume and seems to fix it. It hasn't happen to me in a long time but don't worry its not your tranny. You may also want to clean your throttle body like flyinlow said

Just another bit of info, '03 was the first year for the Hemi and they used a remote APPS (accelerator pedal position sensor). You will have a cable operated by the pedal that then goes to the sensor which is located under the battery. Wires then send the signal to the ECM. I do not think it matters much to you with this problem, just wanted to throw this out there

Get a scan of the ECM, it will tell you exactly whats wrong with the motor. I bought one to scan my stuff with, I think it cost about $200 but you can find em cheaper too
