holley 4160 750 cfm ... help!

Hello,
I have a Holley 750 model 4160, p/n 3310-4.   The secondaries started spitting gas out the vent tube like a volcano and shut the engine down! I took the bowl off and found that my plastic float was full of gas. I replaced it with a new brass one, yet it still won't start.  :shruggy:It keeps pumping gas out the top. I have bought a Holley book, but it does not mention this. The closest I can get is that the fuel level might not be right. I took the bowl back off and did the rough adjustment that the book stated, but still no love. I tried to taking out the "level " screw on the side, but when I cranked the engine it shot gas out like a terrorist attack. I need help. Are there any Holley Gurus on the forum? I hope I am missing something simple. What could cause this? THANKS!

Does your 3310 have a rear metering block or metering plate?
The brass float won't work with the plate,the float will hang up on the plate as the plate extends into the bowl a 1/4" and the brass float has a longer arm than the resin float.

I don't know which yet, I know the front bowl has an extra "plate" between the bowl and body of carb that has the vacuum line to the distributor. I know that when it isn't mounted, it is free moving. Here is a picture of the carb from the passenger side.

That carb looks to have both front and rear metering blocks,brass float shouldn't be a problem if it does.

Sounds to me like the needle valve is not sealing in the seat to shut off the fuel when the bowl is full.  Try removing valve to verify that it's in good condition and that there is no crap stuck to it or the seat.  Sometimes the needle valve and seat must be replaced to solve the problem.

thanks guys. Another detail- I drilled a hole in the plastic float and drained the gas out of it. I then melted the hole closed again. I re installed it and it ran until the float filled up with gas again from where ever it seeped in in the beginning. Would this prove the needle valve and seat are ok? I took it out and it looks ok, but maybe I don't know well enough to know what I am looking for. Could it be caused by me not having the level adjusted right? I have tried adjusting it all the way down , all the way up , and various places in between. They all caused the volcano eruption. I really appreciate your help on this.

Fixed it! I ordered a new plastic float, and now it runs great again!  I think that brass one was hitting like you suggested 62Max.  Thanks for the help!
