When Charger warms to over 180 then engine starts to make a weird constant sound? It starts every time when engine goes to over 180.It's defiantly not the water pump.

I don't have a camera so no sound clip right now.And there's also this scratching sound(on off on off......) when engine is cold but it goes away after the engine warms up a bit.Fan belt was to long so I changed it to a correct size and I think its tight enough. Can it be a bad water pump?are the bearings changeable or I have to buy a new pump if this one is bad?

i had mine make a noise after about the 10th time i fired it up after rebuild. it start after warming the engine up. cold no sound. took off fan belts and the motor warmed without noise. turned out to be the new altenator that sat for a couple years while the car was restored.  :shruggy:

might be waterpump ,  take fan belt off  &  rock the fan ( like checking front  wheel bearings)
to see if pump is worn  ,

A stethoscope would help to isolate where the noise is coming from.

Most just change the pump, four bolts on a BB Mopar. A NAPA or Carquest pump would do. There have been some problems with some of the off shore aluminum "high performance" pumps.

Take the belts off and start it up, that will let you know if its the waterpump or alternator.
