I installed my 440 a few weeks ago. I planned to install the transmission in the next couple weeks. I dont have enough ceiling space in my garage to get enough angle to install the engine and trans together.
Is it that much more of a pain to install seperate?

nope.. what type of transmission though.. manual or automatic?

jack up the front as high as you can safely.

use your floorjack with a 12X12" square board to use as a base to put your transmission on.

do not have the transmission crossmember attached to your transmission. make sure you have your torque converter matched to your flexplate, it only goes on one way.  matching it up and painting the flexplate and the torque converter at the same time allow for an easy alignment of the two.

have your torque converter fully seated and have it containing at least 1 qt of transmission fluid prior to installation.

lay down a piece of cardboard under your car so you can slide the transmission in underneath without scratching up the pan.  then (with help if needed) position the transmission onto the floorjack in its fully lowered position.

raise the transmission so that the front bellhousing allows one bolt (preferably the bottom 5/8" bolt on the pass or drivers side) to be threaded loosely into place.  at this time maneuver your transmission so that you can get the opposite bolt in place.

now check to insure nothing is binding an that your dowels are appropriately lined up.  (you may need a second floor jack to adjust the angle of your transmission by having it moored to the rear tailshaft housing, lifting it up and down accordingly).

now put in a top bolt and tighten all three bolts up securely.  then do with all bell housing bolts except the 2nd from the bottom on the pass side.  make sure you have the dipstick in the transmission before you tighten this one up as this bolt will hold the dipstick in place).

put in your crossmember and secure the rear of your transmission.

bolt your flexplate to your torque converter and tidy up everything else and your done.

I was unaware of this part. I had the torque converter already removed. How do I reinstall it the correct way? or how do I know when it is installed the correct way?

Thanks

Bump- hoping to get the torque converter on tonight.

The torque converter and flexplate holes are offset so that you have to make sure you have them both "clocked" in the same position so all four holes line up with each other.
