One more step down for the Dart

So I found an 8 3/4 rear end for my dart and bought it. Now I just need to go pick it up this summer and then buy the center section. Not sure what gears to get though...  :shruggy:

3.55 seems to be the compromise favorite for mild small and big blocks. If you are interested in going with an overdrive transmission or Gear Vendors, some guys will run a deeper gear like a 3.91.
I have a 4.10 in the Charger, and it SINGS on the freeway. I bought a GV and intend to install it before my next trip to LA.
Good luck.

Exactly the same opinion from this corner.

Drache, just a heads up if you weren't aware. What transmission & rear is currently in the Dart, & is the transmission going to be staying in the car? I ask because, depending on the combination you end up using, you may need to change the drive shaft, or have it cut & rebalanced.

I left the 904 in my Scamp because it's in good shape & had been rebuilt not that many miles ago, but the 7-1/4" rear that was in the car is smaller than the 8-3/4" going in. That means the front of the center section is closer to the transmission & the original drive shaft needs to be shortened.

If the seller of the 8-3/4 has a drive shaft, try to get it to have one you can modify. You could order a custom one, but that isn't going to be cheap.   :Twocents:

Old Moparz, now that I DIDNT realize, and no the seller didn't have one either.

The transmission in the car is currently a 904 although I do have access to a 727 that needs a rebuild.

I'm trying to go from memory, but I don't know if the ends on the tail shafts for both the 904 & the 727 stop in the same location. Meaning, the same overall length. I'm pretty sure that the yokes & u-joints are different sizes, so you'll have to do some research before you start swapping things. I also just remembered that the shock mounting plates are different due to the smaller diameter of the housing, but I don't remember if the smaller rear has a pinion snubber or not. I had to get that stuff for my rear swap. It wasn't hard to find, but it all keeps adding up & takes time.

I plan on collecting all the parts I need and just sending the car to my cousin's shop and tell him "money is no option"  :icon_smile_big:
