Does anyone know when a car was undercoated during the production line process? After spending some time documenting the various detail areas of the underside of my 71 R/T I noticed some curious things. The cars underside is largely untouched since it was produced so I know it is as it came from the factory. None of the brake or fuel lines have undercoating on them as well as any of the associated brackets and hardware. The gas tank and straps don’t show any sign of undercoating. The area of the trunk floor which is covered by the fuel tank is undercoated, so it is obvious that was done before the tank was installed. The vapor separator, which is located in the aft left hand wheelwell was undercoated. The area that was covered by the vapor separator was not and was in the factory paint as well as the brackets. There is no undercoating on the leaf springs or brackets of any of the exhaust hangers as well. It is obvious that undercoating was applied at some point prior to final assembly. It would be interesting to note exactly which items were undercoated and which were not for the process of restoration. Has anyone else noted the same on there cars prior to restoration?

I'm really not sure, interesting question though. Someone on the board is sure to know.
