Can anyone help me id my carb by looking at it ..or maybe tell me where to find the numbers for what size it is ..im wanting to rebuild the thing but i need to know what it is Thank you for any help! Tom  oh yea i forgot to ask about the intake too ??single plane ?? thanks

Ghoste

Look on the choke horn for a number that will be like R_ _ _ _

rattlehead_74

i dont think there is a choke horn on it ,,i know theres no choke option ,,the choke horn is on top right? the  baffle (wall) that sticks up off the top of the carb?

Ghoste

Ooops, my bad.  Should have taken a closer look at the pic huh?  Is ther an R number on the base plate anywhere?

rattlehead_74

Dunno ill go out and take a look ..Ty

rattlehead_74

ok i found r-5 molded to the side of the t-body...and on the top flat area of the venturis i found JCE 10/99 stamped in ,,the only other numbers i can find are on the metering blocks ...the front(front of car) reads 11170 and the rear reads10569  Again Thanks Ghoste

Check out holley's website. They have a bunch of specs. Also if you send them an email, they usually respond in less than 24 hrs.
Plans are useless; planning is indispensible.
Especially with an old car!

The intake manifold is an Edelbrock TM7 "Tarantula" single plane. Makes very good power from 3000-6500 rpm. Old School intake that still works well today  :2thumbs:

The carb is definately a double pumper but without the venturi size or a list number we can't identify it. Can you measure one of the venturi diameters on the base with the carb upside down ?

Yes,I will get the measurements for the venturis at the base ,,thanks Ron ..so would that intake be a good street style intake? w/a mild 440..and a 3500 stall? thanks, tom  oh it  currently has a 513 power-lok setup in it now which is probably going to be changed to a 410,as   i know is way to much for the street lol

I'd say the TM7 is comparable to a Holley Street Dominator....both are low rise single plane intakes. When we had my 446 on the dyno both manifolds were run and made almost identical power. For a hot street setup with 3500 stall and 4.10 gears it will be excellent. Just cam the motor accordingly and it will scream.  :icon_smile_big:

Ok,I took the carb off and found these numbers on the butterflies. (Front) 172(Rear)173 the venturi bores are aprox, 1 11/16" across (sorry dont have a mic) and i also found some numbers on the bottom of the accelerator  pumps which are 34R-2178B probably just numbers for the pumps but might help thanks!

That info helps  :2thumbs:

I have a 750 DP carb here and the baseplate venturi opening measures the same as yours. The Holley parts book shows the 172/173 butterflies with 650-750 cfm double pumper carbs. I'd hazzard a guess and say you have a 750 double pumper there based on the fact that it's sitting on a TM7 intake manifold and that's what would naturally work best on a 440.

The venturi diameter differs between the different sized carbs so to know exactly what you have the carb would need to be disassembled and measured more accurately. The 650/700/750 double pumpers all use the same baseplate....FYI  ;)

This should be a descent carb for a hot street type build. Just needs a refreshing/rebuild and possibly jetting adjustments which are combination dependant  :yesnod:

Well I Thank You very much! Kind Sir!  I wonder why this carb doesnt have the basic "Holley" ID numbers on it? ,,The bowls have the holley name on them. Maybe the carb body was changed?
