Well, I got her fired up at 2:30 am Saturday morning (my neighbors love me).  She had me worried, she was smoking like a $10 whore at first. I guess some oil leaked into the cylinders after I removed the plugs during my preinstall inspection. She cleaned up after a few minutes and purred like a kitten after some initial idle adjustments. I took her for a short spin in the clean night air and all I can say is WOW! Got her home and went to bed, but couldn't fall asleep right away and replayed every nut and bolt I touched in my mind.

I got up on Saturday mid-morning and made some initial adjustments and took her for a serious shakedown. Full throttle in first gear just gets melted tires! It doesn't matter how you start or when you mash the petal, it just fries them. Second gear is only slightly better, with the exception of some serious wheel hop. Third gear....well all I can say is HOLY CRAP! They haven't made tape strong enough to hold the $100 bill to the dash! I haven't had the room enough to stretch her out in forth yet, but let's just say if it's anything like third, I won't be doing it very often!

So.....Looks like I'll make it to Carlisle with the car. I still have some odds and ends to shape her up, but it looks like my ordeal has come to an end.  All in all not bad considering where I was just 2 months ago. I'm still sore from my all nighter Friday into Saturday, but thanks to my friend Scott, I wouldn't have had the motor in at all. I've forgotten what it was like to wrench on a car deep into the night. I just wish I could have done it with a 20 year old's body (lol).  I just want to say thanks to everyone who helped me through this, I've got a lot of good friends as well as lots to be thankful for.

Congrats on getting it back together Doug.  Hopefully there are no other weak links in the drive line and it will last you plenty of years down the road.

Glad to hear your back up and running. Hope to see the car at Carlisle this coming weekend. I'm still unsure if I"ll drive the 500 over or not, but that is the plan so far.

Thats quite the car you got there man.  I think I like the 71 a little more... but i'm slightly biased.  That would make a hell of a pair sitting next to each other in the garage.   :2thumbs:
