I have a '68 Coronet R/T that's been driven 1,000 miles since restoration.  Yesterday I noticed that the front rubber bushing on the driver's side strut rod has torn to the point that it needs to be replaced.  My first guess is that the nut wasn't torqued properly to 50 ft. lbs.   Has anyone replaced the front portion of the rubber bushing without removing the lower control arm and strut rod from the car?

yes !  well ,not replace   , removed it to have a look at something & put it  back , forget now why i had to ,!!   prolly  8 -ten years back now  , but yes i done it , was with a poly bush ,  jack up , support on jack stand , with weight off wheels ! cant remember if i unloaded the torsion bar/s !! to get the bush /sleeve aligned up before you fit the front part , need a pry bar or length of wood , to lever it & hold the strut rod  in the right position , do this up inside the Kframe by the rear half of the bushing ! !! tigthen full torque  once weight is on wheels

Thanks for the reply.  I'll order the bushings and give it a try.
