Roof Dent repair

I have some dents in the center of my roof and Ive tried to get them out a bit with a heat gun and a can of keyboard duster. It helped a lot but its still got dents and its in the center of the roof so of course they have to be in the most flexible part..... There is bracing right under the dents so I cant popem out from underneath unless I cut. I was wondering if there is any filler I can use? And if anyone has any input on the matter. Thanks in advance!

You want to use a stud gun and get it as best as you can. Evercoat Rage Gold is pretty good body filler. And there's some other good brand name fillers out there....

Hmmm whats a stud gun?

It's a gun that basically welds a little sure onto the dent so you have a way to put plies slide hammer etc onto to pull the dent out

OH! haha yeah I know what that is.... thats a great idea. I guess I can throw a skim coat of lead filler for whats left? you guys think that will be better then bondo?

bondo is brand name, would not use that one. Get good quality body filler Evercoat Rage

I dont use bondo. I use the evercoat I just say bondo as a ref for filler in general. I remember when evercoat started to be sold in our area and tried it vrs bondo.....huge diff! used them side by side. Would lead be better on the roof instead? Ive never used lead before. I see eastwood has the kits and a lead free one which I am looking at getting.

Regular body filler will be fine. You're not trying to lead joint on the roof or anything like that. Besides if you haven't used it before you probably don't want to mess with it. Body filler is easy to work with and requires no special tools

Ill figure ill use lead for my quarter panel. I plastic weld which seems to be a close technique to lead but ill give it shot. Ill use body filler for whats left of the roof. Thanks for all the info!

i have  a can of brand USC ALL METAL body filler its suppose to have metal fibers instead of fiberglass has anyone used this stuff before

Evercoat makes their Metal-to-metal version of body filler. USC is good quality filler as well. Make sure you knead it well if it's been sitting on shelf for a while.

I hope you don't mind but I thought I'd tap into your topic and hopefully get an answer or some help. I have two smaller dents right on the front edge of the roof on my Duster, any ideas how to get them out without wrecking my paint?

I use paintless set with glue tabs for hard to reach spots from the back, I think I've seen similar kits at Harbor Freight, not sure how well the glue stick work, but it's worth a try. Or call local PDR guy, they can work them out. 




OP, have you tried using pick to work that low spot? Have you tried separating the center brace from the roof skin? Alot of times the bracing will get damaged and if the skin is still attached to it ,it will hold it down, sometime before separating you can use dead blow hammer and bump that spot and it will come out, worked for me many times,or just separate them and work the damage out,shrinking disc helps alot too, I found it to be the cheapest tool to get straight metal and best of all, if you have patience ,you'll end up with no filler .

You can try some pry rods on the backside of the roof skin.

You can always use stud gun and pull it out and then you'll have to blend paint on the roof

Ill be picking up a stud gun soon. And the glue works well to pop a dent with out body damage.

i used ALL METAL on my roof and it worked great . my roof was a mess . they took the vinyl  top off with a grinder . three days of hand sanding cause my compressor blew   . don't ever wanna do that again
