What is weird is nobody is saying who shot it off.  But from what I heard this afternoon, it was not us. Shot from under the ocean three miles from the California coast.

I think they know, they just don't want us to know what it is. Probably some top secret CIA/Pentagon deal. Remember, the Pentagon or the Air Force don't know anything about Groom Lake (Area 51) either.

I heard it could have been the US "flexing" it's muscles since Obama is overseas...they've done it before as a demonstration. But, the FAA and everyone else they usually tell had no idea it was going to happen.  ::) :scratchchin:

Why don't they know where this thing landed?  :rotz:

My opening question would be, is this the first incident or just the first one that they can't deny?

Have there been reports of other incidents/activity lately that the military has been brushing off as false sightings?  Maybe this is just the first time something happening lately is on clear nationally-broadcast video.

It was waaaaaay to slow for a missile. As one "expert" said: "they call it a rocket for a reason".

I saw some report of it yesterday that called it an ICBM. Watch that video and tell me if that thing could get to Russia in "minutes".

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

RD

i say it was a missile that looks slow because of the perspective... if it was going from south to north it would look like it was moving quickly.. but from the video's perspective.. i believe the missile was traveling away from the camera thus making it look slower than it actually is.

Also, you have to take into consideration that objects from large distances, though traveling very quickly, still seem to be moving slow to the naked eye.  its all a matter of perspective, size of the object, speed of the object and trajectory in relation to the recording source.

I still maintain that it's either a plane or if it is indeed a rocket/missile, its some secret shit that we weren't supposed to know about.

Either that or Blofeld is up to his old tricks again...

So who launched it? The KFMB video above reports neither the Navy nor the Air Force would take responsibility. The Los Angeles Times reports that launches off the coast aren't uncommon and "some have speculated it was a private rocket launch."

Which is to say that it's all still a mystery.

UPDATE, 12:33 p.m.: NPR's Tom Gjelten did some digging and Lt. Desmond James, a public affairs officer with NORAD, sent him this statement:

NORAD and USNORTHCOM are aware of the unexplained contrail reported off the coast of Southern California yesterday evening.   At this time, we are unable to provide specific details, but we are working to determine the exact nature of this event. We can confirm that there is no indication of any threat to our nation and we will provide more information as it becomes available.

2:27 p.m.: NORAD added a bit more detail to its statement, saying, now, that "from all indications this was not a launch by a foreign military."

4:23 p.m.: Quoting a spokesman, The Los Angeles Times reports that the FAA didn't approve "any commercial space launches in the area Monday."
