Well, I don't think this guy has had a legitimate job in his life but I'll give him credit for throwing enough stuff in the air to finally make something stick... at least for 15 minutes of fame. Let's just say I'm going to get a lot of laughs and facepalms out of this show. :rotz: I actually know two of these guys pretty well, the main guy Todd, (the one with the long goatee who does most of the talking, as usual) and his father (white hair and beard) and two others vaguely. At least three of them live up in Sandy, Oregon, the same town where Wildcat Auto Wrecking is. Many of these guys actually did hope to make some money but Todd I think wants to be in front of the camera more than anything. It premieres Friday, Dec. 3 on Discovery.

Looks cool . . . Too bad I don't even have a TV anymore!

Maybe he'll actually find some gold up there.

At least it's a good time to be out looking, with gold at $1,400+ per ounce and nearly every country in the world watering down their currency!

I have a TV but no cable or even the ability to pick up the new digital signals for regular TV. But maybe they'll show it on Hulu. :shruggy:

Did anyone catch the premiere last night? My family and I were invited up to the Hoffman's airport to watch the show. Big turnout. There must have been 250 people shoved inside their little meeting room to watch it.

The show was pretty good. Good quality and they've already set up a good basis for the guys and their relationships. It should be a pretty popular series.

I saw most of it. The bridge they tried to go over looked like it was held together with termites holding hands. Looks like its gonna be interesting show. Mrs.skip68

I've been watching it obviously, and I'm getting antsy for them to get something done. I think they underestimated the amount of work it was going to take to get the place up and running so it's getting frustrating waiting for the gold. I know they guys were getting frustrated too.

Sounds like the show is a success because Discovery is in the process of signing the guys up for a 2nd season. All their gear is still up there so they won't have to do so much startup work when they get there next time, assuming the equipment hasn't been vandalized, stolen, damaged by the weather, etc.

I honestly can say I'm totally intrigued by the process more then anything. The dysfunction and everything I can see being normal... all that time and nothing to show for it I think it makes for some great drama as well. The only shows I enjoy is Dirty Jobs and Mythbusters, but I will say that watching these guys are starting to put them in the rankings with me.

I wish them the best of luck and hope that season 2 pays off for them :-)

I for one don't like the tuff guy attitude out of the one guy.  They need to work together and he needs to show respect to others more.  You get more production out of a happy employee.  2#. That is a jobsite and children don't belong there.  I would never bring my kids there.  Other than those two things I like the show.  It will do well and captures the dreamer in all of us.  The thrill of the hunt is what most guys love.  I hope they hit a motherload of gold.  I will watch it as long as it's on.  Bottom line, it's good TV.  Chuck.....

Interesting. Makes the itch to break out the metal detector, but the ground is frozen and I got a warm garage right now.

Which one are you talking about?

I agree about the kids being there. I'm sure it helped the morale having the families around but at the same time it's too dangerous. I talked to the mom last night and they never did figure out exactly what caused the seizure. The docs told her it is fairly common for seizures in children that age but... :shruggy:

Jack was right when he said there isn't a man alive, who doesn't have anything in him, who wouldn't want to be right there with them. I agree. I'd love to go too and I think most guys would.

BTW, there's a facebook fan page for those who would like to follow along and make comments to the guys: http://www.facebook.com/#!/GoldRushAlaskaFans

Glad the girl is ok. That was scarry.  I would love to just take off and hunt for gold.  Like the old guy said, it's there, they just have to dig it up.

I do have one caveat to my statement about kids. While I agree it's probably no place for small children (like Olivia) I think it is/was a very good education for the older boys who were there. For too long we've been teaching boys to grow up to be pansies (I've seen schools punish boys for acting like boys and tolerate/reward those who act like girls) and I believe these boys learned some really good lessons up there. We treat kids like they're made out of balsa wood and crystal but I think that is patronizing to kids and I think it breeds laziness when keep them in protective bubbles until they're 21 years old.

skip68

Oh yah, I agree with you on that one.   Like when they shot the bear and ate it.  That was good for the boys and something they can brag about back at school.

Have not seen it yet, & hope they do hit it big. But if they do, you watch some sleaze ball come out of the wood work & try to claim it.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

skip68

Haha, neener neener neener.   You owe me $2 Mike....   I told you he had a friend....  We watch every Fri. night.  I like how the one guy was building that nice house while the others are working...  This show is getting good.
