Don't much agree with the review but still all cool.  :icon_smile_big:

RallyeMike

As a huge fan of this movie, I pretty much agree with the review: There isn't much to like about it unless you are a gear head.

This was fun to read.

I just watched the movie for the first time, in english no subtitles ( so I missed part of the dialogues, if there is something to pay attention really LOL ), and sorry, is not a GREAT movie... it does has its highlights but is boring mostly of it, weak argument.

Is a movie that you can watch MUTED, and still will catch allmost everything... that weak is this movie!!!!

not bad, but not good either, just something nice to spend the time if you don't have anything else to do.

everyone will have an opinion on this movie, but you cant compare this movie against the multi million dollar budget movies of today.i feel the movie did have a story line (unlike the original gone in 60 seconds movie). but this movie did all the action and actual driving that was filmed. nowadays its all done in the computer like an animated movie. its my favorite car movie of the ages. watch it 2-3 times a year. think ghoste has a great paint scheme. if ya gotta be brain dead to love this movie, then ive long been there. but mabey you had to see it when it first came out instead of putting it up against some of the car movies like fast and furious 1,2,3,4,5 or how ever many of those things there were, with the action driving that was in those movies. in this movie they really jumped the bridge. do you think they really jumped a camaro onto a yacht? :smilielol:

Saw it at the drive-in when it came out. Pretty slow until they switched cars half way thru. Watched it in a seven year old Charger. My current 37 year old Charger is our official drive-in car ,saw Ironman 2,  and Expendables in it this summer.

Nacho-RT74

great movies doesn't need billions of $... just a strong argument.

thats what makes difference between european movies and at least 70% of Hollywood movies

Is just that ppl lets convince themself for the big show, no matter what bad it is... effects effects effects.

Avatar is one example. Everybody went to watch it because the effects, nobody talk about its argument.

I think it was bull ( Curtis ) who said once ona thread about AVATAR, is not more than Dancing with Wolves, but this time the Indians wining. Nice argument, since Dancing with Wolves it was GREAT ( and no need for billions of $ like Avatar ), but nobody talks about Avatar and the argument, just about the effects.

If you muted Blazing Saddles, you'd miss the greatest on film fart scene ever.

Just so happens that in the last few days I've had a movie marathon happening at my place for the sake of my GF and my 11yo son.
We've watched DMCL, Vanishing Point and Deathproof so far.
It's difficult to get them to share the nostalgia in the films since, as pointed out, they're comparing old school to new school.
As boring as the reviewer think it is, I still love to watch DMCL as much as I ever have, but it looks like in the future I should reserve that one for my nights at home alone.

ps. VP and DP didn't "rate" that well with them either lol
Gotta love a '69

all these modern films with mopars & muscle cars in  , so far fetched , even when you see the ricers !! all computer stuff  almost playstation !! cars dont behave like that , its crap , give me  DMCL :yesnod: :drool5: :coolgleamA: , bullit , original vanishing point , & gone in 60 seconds two lane black top , every time , realistic real cars driving at real time  speed , !!  even the original DOH , yes they wrecked  lots of chargers  :RantExplode:, but  look at some of  the driving shots  with that big ole B-body getting slung around  & the driver fighting the wheel  :Twocents:

If you are looking for some kind of deep meaning or "oh wow" factor in DMCL then you are missing the point.  The film is fun because it's a 90 minute car chase and half of that is in hte coolest car ever.

Cooter

Amen....DMCL, VP, DP, F&F, Etc. Were NOT meant to mean anything, they were an escape from life...Entertainment for 1 1/2 hours..And that they did in spades...Look at Jaws..No real plot there, just a big ass shark killin' people. I agree that at least in these movies the cars were actually doing the 125-150 MPH the speedo's SAID they were....No CGI here...

I say gimme more cult classics...Movies with musclecars in 'em aimed at the intellectual people is like trying to talk horse sense to a jackass...

There are plenty of movies out there for these type people...Steel Magnolias, Ghost, Pretty Woman, Etc....
" I have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours researching what works and what doesn't and I'm willing to share"

Since the first time I saw the movie, Peter Fonda has always been my favorite "clown". The only part of the movie I don't like is the end which toasts another Charger...

Of course the reviewer is name dropped all over the world now for such prophetic insight.  :sarcasmalert:

She may be a little rough around the edges and maybe she even really is dirty but at least she's real and she's out there speaking her mind and puttin' down the man.  Just riding around in some car with a crazy guy who pulled off the dangerous game of robbery.  And why?  Because she didn't have anything else to do.  Real man, real.  :D :nana:  :apimp:

SFRT

back in the 70's we where blessed with an amazing white trash drive in movie theatre (Sacramento off of Elkhorn blvd) where they showed all these sorts of films...the films themselves where just part of the fun and games we had going out there 3 or more nights a week in our crappy teen age cars...chasing weed, chasing girls, getting in fights and so on.

not the same 35 years later sitting on the couch watching it on the tube.

to be honest, most of the best car movies that i like are also pretty bad movies as well. original gone in 60 seconds is terrible as a movie, but as a car movie, it's hard to beat!

we have a movie show in australia called... "the movie show". basically if the presenters say they hate it, i'll go watch it, because i know it'll appeal to me.

I agree with you there, they are nothing to write home about. But then I watch them purely for the cars and nothing else. That way I don't get my expectations up.
I do get a kick out of seeing what we all ran around looking like in the 70's every time I watch the original 60 seconds movie. Those were the days..........or not!!!

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

RallyeMike

The reason this movie appeals to me (besides the car and driving scenes) is the same reason as SFRT. Right time, right place nostalgia. I was only 10 when it came out. I was getting into a full-on Charger groove already and remember watching this movie with my Dad. The fact that the heros were criminals AND race car drivers, AND the add the ending that's leaves you with your jaw dropped. Still one of my faves of all time and watch it once a year, usually fast forwarding any of the parts where Mary opens her yap.

Susan's husband, Simon, sadly died this year. DMCL is one of my favorite films and the main reason I ended up buying a Charger.

elacruze

Quite a lot of my favorite movies have 'no strong argument' ;)

I particularly like DMCL because the wooden acting and weak dialogue add a cultural flavor from that period in our history, which to me adds to the presence of the film. I like Two-lane Blacktop for the same reasons I like DMCL.
If the scripts were better, I'm not sure I'd like the movies more-however, I did see these movies the first time when I was quite young so there is a high nostalgia quotient.

I miss going to a drive in.  There is only one really close enough to go to where I live, and it's been years since we went out there.  Kids these days don't know what they are missing......
