Yes.

They don't have them.

Yet.

But I'm sure if WE start bugging them, they'll tool them up....and it won't cost an arm and a leg.

Won't happen?

Right....and only a year ago you couldn't buy a complete 1970 Challenger shell from Dynacorn, and now you can. Dream the impossible dream.

and only a year ago you couldn't buy a complete 1970 Challenger shell from Dynacorn, and now you can.

And you still can't

pictured is an original shell with AMD/ Goodmark sheetmetal added - then dipped or primered to look like an all new shell

I'm not saying it's not going to happen but considering the amount of small pieces required to do a complete shell, IMO would rule out a complete assembled unibody shell with todays economy and market place, especially considering the market share versus , say a 1969 Camaro body

It would require a lot of small pieces that would be extremely non-profitable to produce and sell individually - as an example, the speaker shelf, inner roof structures, inner quarter window structures and individual support bracing pieces, inner A-pillar structures, inner and outer rocker panels, all the trunk hinge supports, etc, etc, etc

Magnumcharger

So, in the case of this Challenger, it's the classic bait and switch...gotcha.
However, I only used it as an example of how the aftermarket is rising to the call of restorers everywhere.

Is there enough of a market to justify building the required panels to convert a Charger to a Daytona? I say yes, as there are several companies producing these parts right now, as we speak.
How many panels have to be made before the company breaks even? Who knows? (I'm certain their bean counters do!) :icon_smile_big:

All I'm saying is: There is a market for these items, and there are people producing them.

Well, that picture went with the article but I can't say for sure whether it is a picture of the Dynacorn shell. I have been checking out their fenders and grills though and they look nice.

There are  some people already making noses and etc. but I wished that with all the other sheet metal fenders being made that the 70 Coronets had been in enough demand to be done too and keep tooling and prices affordable.

AMD isn't even making full quarters for '70 Coronets. I've asked them and they have told me they are considering finally making full quarters for them.

It all comes down to demand.
Quarters for 1970 Coronets are like fenders for 1970 Chargers. One year only deals.
However, it wouldn't take a lot to cut out the scoop section of a '70 quarterpanel and graft it onto a 1969.
Same with a 1970 Charger fender - cut off the front section and weld it to a 1969 or 68 fender. Not impossible.

I asked the AMD folks when the quarters where going to be avaliable for my 1968 Barracuda fastback. Next spring so they say.
The demand must be great enough!

Unfortunatly its more than just the scoop are thats different,if it was they would probably build them with a different inser in the dies for the scoop area.

They are also differen in the 1/4 ext. area and of course the side marker.

Your thread title had my hopes soaring... then crushed by your first couple of lines...

With at least two makers of decent repros, there is probably not a good business case for major wing car parts, especially for a large operation like AMD.  Still hoping tho...

My thoughts on Aero-car parts (unsolicited BTW!)

Sheet metal: How much metal is in a Nosecone, or window plug for that matter? Not a whole lot. Would two 4' x 8' sheets cover it? Maybe.

Is there ANYTHING that very convoluted about the design of these parts?

Not really.

A member in good standing on this very board made his own rear window plug by using a Janek replica as a template.
(Granted, he is an exceptional fabricator!) (Where's the "tip of the hat" smiley??)

A Nosecone, well....I'd wager a person with a modicum of sheetmetal fabrication experience, coupled with an available English wheel could pound one out in less than a day. (Given a suitable template like a Janek Nosecone for instance).

To tool up for production? Mother Mopar did it with easily-disposible Kirksite molds. A production run of say, two hundred, wouldn't break the bank, would it?

Just sayin' is all...thinkin' out loud. :scratchchin:

Alan, This NOS nose. it doesn't by chance have the insides coated with rustoleum does it?

I used to have an nos nose I bought from Kenny Bracket back in the early 80's , and sold it several years later when I sold the car. I had coated the insides ( maybe the outsides to - don't remember) and I often wonder where it ended up or ever got used

I don't think so Bill, but I will check to be sure.  The friend that I bought it from said he got it from an ex-employee of the K&K Race Team in the early 1970s.  I first saw it at his house in early 1986, and it looked like it had at least 5 years of dust on it from his attic...

It does appear to have had some sort of coating  at one time, maybe Cosmoline?

I like your thinking Robin... If Mark Headrick wanted to borrow the NOS nose cone, and said he would return it unharmed, I would very likely loan it to him.  Other folks need not apply for the loan... well Gean G. already did... but I decided not to take the chance.  I have known Mark a lot longer, since the NHOA days in the mid 1980s.
