With shells like that I wonder how many Hemi and 440-6 challengers suddenly will be found
as "super barnfinds" outside US since the controle is less to zero in some countries.

When they make Chargers they will probably cost just as much as the rest of the new shells.  And they won't revolutionize the Charger hobby any more than the other shells have.  The shells are extremely good for the hobby in the long run, but most of us will still be welding together rusting old cars and trading around mostly used parts.

But I'm hoping that maybe Dukes fans will hear less griping about wrecking Chargers once there are some repro shells.   By the time those cars are built to hit the ramp they aren't much more than a shell.

NICE...now I need to double my income and I can get one. No hate for those that can afford to do this its just I don't think it will matter much for me. 17.5K is some money but not crazy expensive & I think they did good.

Might be cheaper in the US, but my local dealer is selling it for $17,500. I found it on kijiji, which is like a craigs list.

Anyone find it at a US dealer?

I would wait for a lot of customerreactions before I would order one, nice to have one and the dash,
windshield etc doesn't fit. :eek2:

So does this make a rebody an ok thing to do? Short of restamping a core support, trunk rail, engine block and transmission, it sounds to me like it's close to what everyone is giving Keisler hell about. It's just moving a dash with a VIN over to a new body.  I can see where there might be more of the original parts in one of these than the xp hemi car though.

Or do you have a new VIN created by the state and call it a 2011 Charger? Now all of a sudden there are 5000 more Hemi chargers than were actually built.

I guess my question is, Where do you draw the line?

God must love stupid people; He made so many.

It's an excellent question.  My guess is that there will be a LOT of VIN swapping taking place which isn't legal but most everyone is going to look the other way.

Old Moparz

I'd say there's not much physical difference in using a Dynacorn body shell over using a rust free 6 cyl. car to donate to Hemi science. The most important difference is, the shell is legal to use. You're not swapping tags from one car to another, you're using a replacement part. I'm not sure how I feel about an envelope car being rebuilt with a new body shell, but I do know that I wouldn't worry about 2 cars with the same paperwork ever turning up & having to explain & defend myself.

Maybe it's a gray area when it comes to "physically restoring" a car, but it doesn't seem gray as far as legalalities.

Yeah, a replacement part to house the VIN tag.  It's every bit as much VIN swapping as using a 6 cyl shell in my opinion.  I do agree that it opens up a whole new area of restoring and should encourage some discussion on what should constitute legal but I don't see it as any more legal than the old way of rebodying. :Twocents:

Just FYI - there's an article in the latest Auto Enthusiast covering the legal side of these new shells.

I can't get that here yet, what is the gist of the article Troy?

If you used every piece of sheet metal available back in the day,how much original would be left?
I think there is a half dozen small parts listed as not supplied in the parts catalog.

An excellent point.  I wonder though, how often that ever happened.  All the same you make a good point.  Of course, back in the day, you couldn't use all that sheet metal to "recreate" a hundred thousand dollar clone.  It was only good for fixing up a depreciated used car.

Probably never.
Damage that bad would include a another car hit in the opposite side and the two halves welded together.Good old clipping.A few mags(from the late 70's I think) have even showed how it's done.

Thanks Troy, I signed up & read it.

Unfortunately it's not a black & white issue. The article tells you more or less, that you need to research your own state's DMV laws before you assume it's okay.

3/4ths of the questions being posed by the new body shells aren't new.  Most of them are long-ignored issues that have been around since the cars first became valuable for their VIN numbers.

A big portion of the Challenger's final materialization can also be linked – surprisingly enough – to Fiat's acquisition of Chrysler. Recently, the new management decreed that the licensing of recreation parts be broadened to allow aftermarket companies open range to repop vintage muscle car parts. It might not sound like much, but it actually means that more major aftermarket companies will be reproducing everything that you need – and have been waiting for for years – shortly!

I love Fiat  :icon_smile_big:

Hey y'all!

Sorry I've been WAAAY off the radar, but I've been on FULL SEMA MODE for the last two weeks. I finally buttoned up the end of our insanely-over-the-top SEMA coverage and can finally pop back into my favorite forum...

I loved writing this sentence because I couldn't contain how stoked I was. Yes, the new Chrysler management gave the big OK to license over 100 different companies to start producing Mopar Authentic Restoration Product-approved Mopar equipment, parts, and pieces. Dynacorn is only one of a whole bunch of companies now punching out new Mopar parts. I'm sure many of you know who they are, but I wanted to stop in and spread the good news and show you that I'm not kidding.

Here's a short list of big names either starting or expanding their Mopar line (with links to the press announcements):

Won't the new body shell have some type of ID numbers? It looks like they would maybe change the floor or make something different so it would stand out and make it more difficult to transfer any numbers? Wouldn't the spot welds or pinch welds look different then originals?

I doubt any of the repro bodies would be literally 100% indistinguishable from the originals.  Not for people who know what to look for.  They don't need to purposely build in a difference, I'm sure just the practicalities of all that panel stamping & welding will create a bunch of little details that differ from the originals.  These aren't the same toolings from 40 years ago and they aren't being welded together by the same equipment.

They will at least try to make the repros as close to the originals as possible.  I'm fine with that.
