i currently own a 1971 dodge charger se 440-Hi-Po car that i am restoring. it is a numbers matching car and i am just wanting to get opinions on stuff like what the price of it finished will possibly be if done correctly and also wondering if anyone is interested in owning this car its a very rare car. i know for a fact they only made 633 of them. it has most of the original parts with it but im open for discussion on it i just want to know more about it and i want to get rid of the car because my son is really wanting a 2011 dodge challenger so im trying to help him out on that.

Hi there . . .

I got the same car! But without the matching numbers 440 or automatic transmission.

Is yours gunmetal blue? Vinyl top? AC? Leather interior? Power windows and locks?

I've seen the car sell for anywhere up to $30K or so on the Internet and on eBay, but those were very nice original or restored examples.

There's more of a limited market for the 1971 SE, I think - most people are drawn to the bright colors and stripes on the RT model.

Sometimes it seems like if it's not yellow or orange or purple it's a tough sell, but there are people out there interested in the more "sleeper" models like the SE.

I would guess that a 1971 SE with a 440 and four-speed pistol grip transmission would be THE hot ticket.

They only made a dozen or so of those and I've only ever seen one for sale - a crumpled up rotted out red one down in North Carolina that still looked fixable, but was very rough.

But, assuming yours is an automatic transmission, restored I'd say you're looking at anywhere from $15K up to $25K . . .

The car value books say more than that, I'm just trying to keep you down to earth and realistic. The collector car market is not fetching anywhere near the prices it was just a few years ago - bubble burst for most makes and models.

Tricky Lugnuts the car is originally white. It has ac, cruise control, automatic on the column, everything you can think possible. we have the original transmission and the original 440 with matching fender tags and everything. we took this car completely apart and we are rebuilding it from the ground up it will be in pristine condition when we are finished. the 440 4 speed they only made like 56 of and yes they are worth a lot of money i wish that is what i had. plus like you mentioned the car market is down but im hoping to get at least 30k for it due to my son is bugging me a lot for a 2011 dodge challenger and he raised over 15k on his own so i told him i would help him the rest of the way.

Chargerowner01: Sounds like a really nice car . . .

With the proper restoration and sufficient originality, I would say $30K isn't too far fetched for that car as long as you can find the right buyer - but it's tough finding someone with that kind of cash to blow on a 40-year-old car these days.

We do always love Charger pictures here!  :yesnod:
