So I'm at a Dunkin Donuts and I see this 69 Dart in a space. I saw the car one other time.  This time as he was walking out with his coffee I jumped out of my truck and said , Hey can I take a picture of your beautiful Dart?  He walked over and we started talking.  Within seconds he's telling me he has over 70 Mopars.  What?  Yep 11, 67 chargers, a red apart 69 Hemi charger and on and on.  He hands me his card to his shop and says, yeah stop by and come see me and the cars.  :notworthy:

So at lunch time I swung by the shop and he had this stuff outside.  The guys in the shop said yes he has tons of other cars in storage.  He will talk your ears off about Mopars and you will be his new best friend.  I replied, that's great I'm looking for a new best friend.  :D

I gave him a call and told him I'll swing by again.  The 69 is a real R/T car.

I don't even know how to respond to a find like that.  Plus the fact that he just handed you a business card and freely invited you to drop in any time.  Unheard of in this day and age.  You had a great day in my opinion.

Yes I agree 85%.  One of the workers got him on his cell and he said please come back, I didn't want you to think I was crazy and making it up.  I replied, the only thing I was thinking when I met you was, wow what a nice guy, he invited me over to see his stuff and talk.  Cool.  :2thumbs:

I need to meet up with this guy and earn a friendship first. I have no idea how private he is and what he is willing to share?  I'll post more info as I go along. For now I'd just like to meet again and be friends.
And then the second after that I'll ask him if he wants to trade my shiny car for his taken apart Hemi car?  :icon_smile_big:

So let's talk about this.  I have to disagree somewhat and here's why.  I really believe we're in a dying hobby. Everyone I knew as a kid was into cars, and now a select few are. We all know most kids are not anymore, they have way to many other things to play with ( sadly including my own ). On this note, I myself have become very friendly when I meet people that love Chargers and love to share stories and talk about our passion.
Just the other day I gave out my number to a guy that always ask me if I took the charger out today?  I know he doesn't have the money to buy one right now so I told him to swing by my house and we'll take it for a ride. Point is I really think others feel this way also, that there seems to be less and less to appreciate your hobby like you do, so when you meet someone that seems to be nice and into the hobby like you, you put out your hand and friendship. Anyone agree?  :shruggy:

You can't own that many Mopars and not be known.  I talked to one friend that heard of him.  I did ask about websites etc but the conversation got changed.  He did say something about a family member that runs a cruise night.  No matter what I look forward to seeing his other and better toys.

I agree and think that's often, I wish more people were like that.  That's kinda how I learned what I know. The guys that work at the shop near my house have a 70 charger and a 68 dart, both hemi cars. I used to stop by all the time as a kid to hang out and help them work on their cars.

charge69

I feel the same as you and welcome questions about my car but rarely  get any.  Guess you gotta take it out once in a while to appreciate its' uniqueness. :icon_smile_big:

I hope that one day one of my 4 grandsons see more than "money"  when they look at the Charger but that remains to be seen. If I am stopped or questioned about the Charger, I get a little long-winded as my wife says. :icon_smile_big:  I just want them to appreciate what it represents to me someday!   Guess I will probably sell it and have my loving and understanding wife have the money if I get the luxury of a little  warning. The kids would just sell it and squander the money. At least, that is how I feel right now.

P.S.  I used to get pulled over by passerbyes a lot in the late '70's when I first got the car.  They were pretty unique, even back then.

when i find another person with another old car, no matter the make, it's easy to make conversation. just tonight i stopped to gas up the charger and a '72 torino pulls up. a dude near my age, so that's even more rare because it's usually, no offense to anyone here-way older guys that drive the old rides and a lot of them aren't all that friendly. struck up a conversation with this guy for 30 minutes or so, EASY. when it's a mopar, it's 10x better.

that's how i've made friends in this "hobby" and been able to keep my car thanks to all the help and knowledge given to me by others way more experienced than i. it's great having a friend that rides around in a '70 beldevere/satellite/soon to be a roadrunner clone and knows these cars very well but his dad being a 30+ mopar certified mechanic/restorer and they won 3rd place in the A-body category a few years ago? pretty sweet.

he's all, grandmaster jedi on these cars and knows whats up right away and how to take care of it without cutting corners, doing it the right way, etc.

Got a guy out my way like that... last count people said was over a 100 mopars all sinking into the ground and he doesn't want to sell anything... he just keeps buying up more junkers.
I did hear that he finally had a Super Bee fixed up.

So when is ur next man date?  :nana:              :icon_smile_big:
Well, just got back from my man date.  Very nice guy, a hard worker that has been into Mopars his whole life and collected, restored and raced many.  He does all the work himself. He showed me some more. The 66 charger is a very rare 426 Hemi, 4spd, pw car.  It was bought along with another blue one that is still in the mid west with the same options. The Vin numbers are sequential. That owner tried to buy this silver one and Rob said he wouldn't sell it for a million bucks. Seems a father was buying the blue Hemi 66 for his kid and loved the charger so much that he ordered another (this one ) silver Hemi car along with it.  The engine compartment is almost 100% original.
The owner today of the blue Hemi Charger located  Rob and had a plan to buy Rob's car at a very high price and then sell the 2 cars as a pair overseas back in 2005 for a million dollars.  Rob said no thanks, and the phone went silent.  The guy couldn't believe he passed on the offer? Rob did fly out there and drove the twin blue car.
He said to ask you guys why is the power antenna off the rear? whereas the other 66 charger has the standard antenna on the front fender?

Oh and John he said HI.

Some of his models in a play room.
Also he said he keeps everything he has as this is his hobby.  He sells or sold very little.  That 4spd rotting smashed 69 charger stays where it is.  He showed me a picture of the 69 Hemi car that is apart and said it will be put back together and on the road.  He works on his cars almost daily.  I asked where he finds the time?  He said " I don't watch T.V"  Wow. :2thumbs:  Now I know why I get so little done.

He showed me a kinda dark picture of it with the front clip off.  I think it's blue now but a original red car.  I will stop by his shop one day and grab some more pictures including the Hemi. Where I was today was his home and garage. He has a business building ( where the outside parts cars are ) and a car shop building where he works on the nice cars.
He was very friendly and had no problem with the pictures at all.
Even though he has 11, 66 chargers his favorite are the 63 type Mopars and he has several race and stock cars of those also.
Wondering if he was one of these guys that have a rare car but never ever get it done, I asked if the 69 Hemi Charger would ever be back on the road?  He clearly said absolutely it will be finished and on the road but he is doing other Mopar car projects right now.  The 69 Hemi engine is in one of the 63 cars.  He doesn't care much if the original Hemi engine goes back in the 69 charger.  :shruggy:  He likes it in the 63 car and may just put another Hemi engine in the 69 Hemi car. Stopped by his car work shop and he was playing with a 62 Dart with original paint, and just stuffed a 413 in it.

He said to ask you guys why is the power antenna off the rear? whereas the other 66 charger has the standard antenna on the front fender?

rear antenna cars, from my understanding, were for export cars only.  i got this tidbit from the recent mopar action that showed a export 1 of 1, non-galen documented, convertible 6pk challenger.  it stated that rear antennas were for that reason only.

am i full of kaka or do i know what i am talking about?  idk.. just spitting out what i read in the magazine is all.

70 AAR's and T/A's had rear mounted antennas because the fiberglass hood allowed too much ignition interference in the radio signal.

Yea, how can a fiberglass hood have radio interference.  :shruggy:

It's not that it has any radio interference, it's that it doesn't shield against it. Grounded metal acts as a barrier to electromagnetic waves, i.e. radio waves. Powerful sources of constantly changing electricity like ignition systems generate lots of EM radiation (noise) and result in interference with EM radiation that is purposeful like radio and digital communications.

I would have to look into the validity of this situation as the radio shares a ground with the body through the battery so the radio probably still sees the noise.

Maybe Ma Mopar learned the hard way on these, and that's why the T/A's and AAR's have the antenna in the back?
