It's the toys that were banned, not the happy meals.  San Francisco is a city in California not the state.  Really, I mean really, you're going to get all worked up over some cheap imported Chinese toys.  You have no idea what you're talking about or what it's like to live in California.

Steve

i do, i was born in san bernadino, lived in san diego... and according to my child a happy meal is not happy without a toy.  thanks for calling me stupid though, because obviously i dont know what i am talking about.

my daughter just read the title and said," that is wrong, just wrong."  She is 8 years old.  Oh how true wisdom is lost to the youth hehe ok, that was a joke.. kind of.

i think this country is going to hell and California is just leading the way.  Why not? The state has shown that it tries so hard to think for everyone but it can't balance its own budget.  They need to keep their noses out of everyone else's business and focus on real issues.

I am being a total generalist when I say that this is just blatantly wrong (quoting my daughter somewhat).  It's little crap like this that just makes me hate the stupid/idiotic legislation of all states.  I am just glad that Kansas has a more libertarian approach to government.  I get enough to piss me off by reading these posts about other states... glad I dont have to read them about mine.

Isn't Kansas where theres a monument to the Ten Commandments at a courthouse? Yeah...that's VERY libertarian

libertarianism is a belief in smaller government.  Kansas is a conservative state that has libertarian ideals, not FULLY a libertarian state.. but a republican state.  On average, most republicans/conservatives can be considered religious, so.. the ten commandments at a courthouse is a good thing for us... not a bad thing.

QuoteI like how some of you guys that bash California for being a nanny state live in places where there are "dry counties" or still have laws where you can't buy alcohol on Sundays (several states, including Kansas)

banning people from buying alcohol on Sundays is widely gone in the state of Kansas, except for some rural areas.  Again.. conservative state = religious state.  Most do not have a problem with this and many know to buy their beer on saturday thus not having to waste a trip to town on sunday :D

Quotehave outright bans on pornography (Oklahoma), public officials try to blur the lines between government and religion, and so on and so on....

QuoteAs I always like to remind you "wish California would sink into the Ocean" guys: If that happened, this country would be fucked. We have the 6th largest GDP (13% of the US's total GDP) in the world and are one of the biggest "donor states" (ie. we pay out more in taxes to the Federal government than we get back in benefits and services). So let us sink into the ocean...

well, if you have more people, of course you are going to pay more taxes, but also.. because you have more people.. you all get more money from the federal government in regards to social programs being provided.  So you all pay so others in your state can get paid.  I would say it evens out, but isnt your state riding a deficit? I dont know and to be honest, I dont care enough to find out.

California is 150 billion dollars in debt (and this is after millions Arnold has already taken) and the state is currently running a 19 billion dollar budget deficit for 2010. How does the statement we pay more than we get back make sense? It doesn't.  Believe me, I am not a expert economist, but I am a thinker, and when you pay more than you use, you do not have to pay state employees with IOU's. Just sayin.

I know it seems most people are "ganging" up on California.  It is a beautiful state, as I have been there many times.  I would even consider living in California if it where not for the people in charge.  Every state has taxes, regulations, and some sort of nanny state rules.  It just seems with each passing week California is coming out with new "we know better than you" rules. And to most of us, we find these restrictions overreaching their bounds of governing.  And it seems to some living in California they agree, as businesses and residents are leaving in droves.

This law is not necessary.  Nobody is forcing the parents to take their kids to Mickey D's for a happy meal.  They dont have to eat happy meals once they get there either.  Parent wont be parents anymore and want the govt to do it for them.

I'd be happy to live in California and get out of the c-c-c-c-old ass winters we have here in fly over land.  Then i could drive my Charger year round!  :drive:

Seems a bit too far but if anybody has actually been harrassed to buy GD happy meals by kids only to see them rip open the bag for the toy and NOT even eat the cheeseburger or the fries might see it as a welcome relief.    Then later on you can break you neck tripping on the stupid toy in the dark laying on the floor.

I priced it out awhile back and I showed Lisa she was paying more for the stupid happy meal vs just getting stuff off the dollar menu anyway cause she'd always get Karisa that crap when she whined for it.

It's not really my problem...    let everybody else deal with their own fatazz diabetic kids  :icon_smile_big:

Typical SF bullshit. by the way, the Giants can suck it. I can talk cause i have lived here for a reallly long time. as far as the Happy Meals thing..wow , great victory...as there are maybe 4 Mcdonalds in the entire city anyways. and maybe about 6 children...so no great loss..but I do find it rather INSANE that while its illegal to include a toy prize in a childs meal, its perfectly legal and , apparentley, morally correct to allow that same child to go to one of the several public sex fairs the city allows each year so they can watch large men  in leather chaps fuck each other on a sunny afternoon.

On a positive note, the local police force is very muscle car friendly...so maybe it balances out.

See, what you're in essence saying is that it's ok for a state to be a "nanny state" if the people in it agree with it. Just because KS is a mostly conservative, religious state it doesn't mean that there aren't non-religious, non-conservative people there for whom those things you find reasonable are intrusive. Remember, just like with Obamacare and anti-gun laws...just because something it's supposed to be for your benefit and it makes people feel good doesn't necessarily mean it's a good thing.

Now, on the economic angle. Yes, California is in debt and running a deficit. But it's not because it's a "poor" state that doesn't generate/create wealth, it's because the clowns running things here don't know how to manage that wealth. Think of a guy who makes $300,000 a year but is still in the red because he has a ton of expenses and lives beyond his means.

I think you and chargerboy are missing the point of my comment about California being a donor state. What that means is that for every dollar (taxes, etc) that California sends to the Federal government, it only gets back about 78 cents in the form of services, benefits, funding etc. Now you look at Kansas, and for every dollar they give they get back $1.12.  But these aren't my numbers...they're all in those links I posted above. Basically it's places like California, Texas, Illinois, New York, Minnesota, Florida, and a handful of other states that are subsidizing and bailing out the rest of the states. And that's a big reason why these states, who are also the wealthiest,  are in similar situations as California.

So Mr. $300K a Year is not only bad at managing his money, but on top of that he's gotta send money to his bum brother and lazy distant cousins who can't really provide for themselves, and thus it's harder for him to get his own finances straightened out. You don't need to be an expert economist to see that if you give more money than you get, you are bleeding money. It's high school economics guys, it ain't rocket surgery.

Believe me Ponch I know what you were talking about, however this is not why California is in the shape it is in. Here are two main reasons I was told California received less money than other states. One, is the population of Californian is younger than the national average.  So California does not need as much money for Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid as compared to other states.  Second, when deep military cuts took place in the 90's, California was hardest hit. So this means they get less as they do not have to pay as much for the military as they used to. Does it seem fair?  Not sure.

Texas is in the same position as California as far as paying more and getting less, but they are making it.  They are actually in the best shape out of any state in the union. And the are making it without a state sales tax. California is in the shape they are in because of the corrupt leaders in the state and local governments out of control spending, the unions, the entitlement programs, bullshit "green" policy's, nearly the highest corporate tax rate in the union, the highest sales tax in the nation, we could go on and on.

What the hell pizza on a stick & why does it need to be on one? Since when is it so difficult to grasp a slice to eat it? If that's the case, why not use one of those harmonica holders to clamp it down in front of your mug? This way you can have both hands free to wander around & maybe even defend yourself from all the chap wearing gay guys in search of happy meals?
