Not that I needed one, however this is just another reason not to live in the F-ed up state of California.   :P

Sorry Brock, I know how you liked your Happy Meals.  ;)  :icon_smile_big:

I thought New York was bad.   :slap:   This is all they have to be concerned with in California?   :smilielol:
Unbelieveable!   ::)

Pretty much, since the Giants won the World Series.

Brock Samson

Yep,.. no plastic bags or styrofoam containers either, they make the restaurants show the health board's inspection  score and list the nutrition of ingredients in meals plus the workers in the restaurant industry get health benefits too paid for out of a 10% tax on all meals.

Troy

New York would have made a special tax for it - at least that might help the budget crisis. It's not like there aren't more pressing issues at hand.

I have a friend who nearly lost his child to the state of California. He was basically told by the judge that children are the property of the state and parents are just caretakers who have been given a special privilege by the state. He moved.

Troy

Troy's friend is probably embellishing for dramatic purposes.

California has a ton of problems, but it's not as bad as people (outsiders) make it out to be. People that don't live here or have never even been here seem to the ones that raise the biggest stink about these things all the time. As for this Happy Meal thing...yes, it's ridiculous, but the Gay Area is a weird place in and of itself.

So those of us who have been there are still free to criticize right? (because it is a seriously messed up place)

My idea of a happy meal is a good steak, some crab meat stuffed mushrooms, & some ice cold beer.

And I don't even need a toy with it.

He did eventually win the case but he's still got the legal bills to prove it.

Where I live is not perfect of course. However, it seems like most of the nanny state laws tend to crop up on the "liberal" coasts.

my daughter just read the title and said," that is wrong, just wrong."  She is 8 years old.  Oh how true wisdom is lost to the youth hehe ok, that was a joke.. kind of.

i think this country is going to hell and California is just leading the way.  Why not? The state has shown that it tries so hard to think for everyone but it can't balance its own budget.  They need to keep their noses out of everyone else's business and focus on real issues.

I am being a total generalist when I say that this is just blatantly wrong (quoting my daughter somewhat).  It's little crap like this that just makes me hate the stupid/idiotic legislation of all states.  I am just glad that Kansas has a more libertarian approach to government.  I get enough to piss me off by reading these posts about other states... glad I dont have to read them about mine.

It's the toys that were banned, not the happy meals.  San Francisco is a city in California not the state.  Really, I mean really, you're going to get all worked up over some cheap imported Chinese toys.  You have no idea what you're talking about or what it's like to live in California.

i do, i was born in san bernadino, lived in san diego... and according to my child a happy meal is not happy without a toy.  thanks for calling me stupid though, because obviously i dont know what i am talking about.

I guess we should tell everyone they dont know what they are talking about if they care to offer their opinion?  What a novel concept.  If you dont know what you are talking about and you voice an opinion and it differs from Roth68rt's... then be prepared for ridicule.

there are a lot of things that upset me.. i guess i shouldn't state them on here in case you decide to find fault with it and tell me, once more, i dont know what I am talking about.

how about.. you do not know what you are talking about, because you made a statement without knowing where I came from originally?  Alas, keep on keeping on buddy!  I may not know what I am talking about in regards to California.. but I know what I am talking about when it comes to frivolous, unfocused, and liberty encroaching laws that hold no merit other than to allow people to have "happy" warm and fuzzies just so they can go to sleep at night thinking they made the world a better place, but in fact just allowed government a stepping stone in to regulating products that have no direct harm to consumers.

but.. bah.. that must be bull sh it, because i dont know what i am talking about.

Yeah some of this stuff is just stupid to some,.. but to other's who are trying to fight child obesity or whatever,.. this is progressive and will pay dividends down the way,.. especially for "Green" and/or "Progressive" politicians who see votes without backlash.
I also see folks on here who miss no opportunity to bash California, San Francisco, liberals, minorities, the coasts, raccoons, four doors, Fiats, Nannies, Decaf Coffee, Zombies or whatever,.. Not you, just some people,.. just sayin'...

No, people get worked up because San Fransisco is overstepping their bounds in telling parents they know what is best for their children to eat. Last time I knew, this was the parents responsibility, not some fu#$ing politician.

Your right, I do not, and I am so happy for that fact.  So make sure you never give an opinion on any other state, because you do not live their either.

Isn't Kansas where theres a monument to the Ten Commandments at a courthouse? Yeah...that's VERY libertarian

I like how some of you guys that bash California for being a nanny state live in places where there are "dry counties" or still have laws where you can't buy alcohol on Sundays (several states, including Kansas) , have outright bans on pornography (Oklahoma), public officials try to blur the lines between government and religion, and so on and so on....

As I always like to remind you "wish California would sink into the Ocean" guys: If that happened, this country would be fucked. We have the 6th largest GDP (13% of the US's total GDP) in the world and are one of the biggest "donor states" (ie. we pay out more in taxes to the Federal government than we get back in benefits and services). So let us sink into the ocean...

I.M.O. a far more interesting discussion would be that the State damn near made Grass legal, only the Gov. further decriminalising it took the wind out of the Proposition's sails, that - plus the DEA Feds. got their panties all inna bunch and threatened to disregard state law and arrest everyone anyway... as they've been doing all along anyhow.
This is a big deal and will continue to be,.. banning cheap toys from a fat loaded happy meal, not so much,..
Worthy of intelligent debate sure, blanket condemnation without research?.. spare me...   :slap:

Not much more to say except that I love where I live (I could live anywhere really).  I was thinking about it on BART today -- I so wish I lived here instead of Reno during the 60s -- I would have loved taking  part in the anti-war movement.  California is the land of big changes, from the gold rush, to the movies, to the Net, to sports and on and on -- it all happened here. And I say this even though my dumb community just raised the sales tax to 10.5 on Tuesday for more dumb cops!  Dummies, I love 'em all.  Kim
