70 383 WHERE IS THE VIN STAMPED?

on a 440, it is midway on the side of the block down at the bottom, where is it on a 383? i am going thursday to buy one and want to check the #'s, also while i'm at it, any CLUE where the numbers would be on a 3 speed tranny?

Same place.  On the trans, it will also be on the right side of the case and near the front.

perfect thanks. should i expect a partial VIN?

If you're just talking about the vin numbers and it's a 70 model, it should be the last 8 of whatever is on the dash plate.
