This weekend I did a full coolant flush and was going to find the oil leak in the Power Wagon I just got.  As soon as I crawl under the truck, no cover plate on the 727  :brickwall:  I'm assuming this would be my oil leak, right?  When I get the new cover for it, is there a gasket that I need (can't find one) or do I use something along the lines of permetex gasket maker?

Dust cover shouldn't have anything to do with it. More than likely, it's the rear main seal or possibly oil pan gasket (if indeed its motor oil, if its tranny fluid, probably front pump seal), and its dripping onto and off of the trans bellhousing. To my knowledge, there isn't a gasket for the dust cover, just bolt it on.

correct, there is no gasket for the dust cover.its just there to protect from rocks and debris. the leak will either be oil from the rear main, or trans fluid from the front seal of the tranny if its coming out of the trans housing.

Damn, that doesn't sound good at all.  Thanks for the responses.  Now I know where to look.

Engine oil leaks that appear in that area can also be from the valve cover(s) or the oil pressure transmitter at the rear of the block.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
