sorry I just saw this post. I live on the East side of Indy (Lawrence). I can look at it if you like. I'm redoin my 68 as we speak, have a welder (not expert but not bad) better at mechanical stuff, and I have some spare parts. That and I work at a parts distributor in town, (good discounts) . More than happy to help out!! :2thumbs:

As you've guessed by know, your not alone. Ypu survived cancer, so a little thing like restoring a car is nothing compared to that. Most of us have made the same mistake with our cars. That's why so many know how to handle the problems.
Make a list of everything your Charger needs. Personally I would take care of what needs done so the car can be safely driven. Nothing makes you loose interest, or get overwhelmed quicker than having a cat needing tons of work and not even being able to drive it once in a while.
Take it one step at a time. Even if you need to completly replace your front frame, you can get nice used ones for $125. I have a pair, but I'm in Ohio. If you can, go to the Mopar Nationals. You'll find tons of parts, and maybe meet up with some of the people from here.
Keep us posted.

Okay here you go.   NOW let me just say as I like to represent correctly on the Internet lol...it is a little older picture of me...I look the same but have an extra ten pounds (darn that...I quit smoking over a year ago and battled cancer so I did put on a few pounds.   And I like to eat too lol).

I am the one with the Playboy shirt on...second one from the right.   The other girls were in a music group that was popular kinda in Orlando, Florida when I lived there.   I figured you all would like this picture with those girls in it.   lol

ALMOST forgot....HUBBA HUBBA! :D

hey DarkAngel
Nice to have another girl here :-*
There's a post in 'Off Topic' I rather innocently started asking 'where you from' - i was just interested if anyone had made it here from the UK......
anyway have a look through & see if you find any Indy peeps & just PM them & ask if they can weld!

LMAO Yeah I do not want any of you get into trouble with your wifes.

Okay here is the downlow...

Took to both shops today...first shop said it was past what they do, but the second one after looking at it for quite awhile told me he can do it, but probably cannot use the caps for where the rust is at...it would not do.  What he would do is take out the bad parts/pieces...custom make new ones to go in there.  He totally explained it and told me ROUGH estimate would be around 1500.00 or maybe higher.  This guy has been here in town forever and both my Mom and I feel real good about it.  He told me that it would awhile as he would have to find the pieces to work from and then wait for this and that,. but he can do it and clearcoat it afterwards to give it extra protection.  He is big on classic cars himself...also told me it is not bad enough where I cannot drive it...said drive it for awhile....get the bugs out...then in August I am going to take it to him to say goodbye for a month or so.  AND if something does not work then it will go to a resto shop.  lol

Another thing I liked about him is while driving it today it began to make a huge noise in the front end and I felt some vibration.  Now he is the owner of a body shop here...and he took some time out to go on a test run with me to figure out what the noise was coming from.  Then looked at it when we got back to the shop...said I have a dry bushing?  Bearing?  (One of those lol)  So I have some WD 40 amd tommorrow it will be sprayed.

As for what is bad...the rails holding the K member are rusted out and so is a rail in the trunk area.  Then a few spots in other areas.  And yes two places you can put a finger through it.  Both places were just amazed at what was done to hide this issue.  Bondo with paint in the frame and fiberglass...mud....they have no clue what is going on...

I do have a question about it which I will post over in the Tech Q&A to be proper, but I did drive it around town today and wow!  The looks I got!  I have pictures (some are not so good) of the underneath which either tonight or tomorrow I will post on here.

Smasherofall...I will be contacting you.  :)

BlackCharger--I have the list going already.  The newest addition is getting all window seals taken care of for it leaks big time in the front and I had water in the trunk (good thing I have not replaced any type of trunk mat in there yet).   When is the Mopar Nationals?  It seems like I saw something about it, but I am going to be in Michigan that weekend....

You all thank you so much!!!!!!!

I would be interested to know who you talked to about it because I am familliar with most of the shops in Indy because of the business I'm in. We sell parts all over central Indiana.

DarkAngel0816

I PMed you and they are actually all over the place the shops I have spoken too.  I may still check out one down in Greenfield...cannot remember their name.  All I know is they have a Charger cut in half...that scares me lol.

chicago as well, your idea about going to a tech college is good cause they will usually let you bring in your own car to learn on. Don't worry it all can be fixed just make sure the shop is good and will properly measure out the unibody for straightness. If anything is off and they start welding on new parts it could cause problems later in alignment on other parts of the car.

Mopar Nationals- Columbus, Ohio
Aug 12,13,14 Three days full of mopar cars, parts, and racing.
well worth the trip

DarkAngel0816

I would love to go to the nationals, but I am going to be in Michigan for my birthday (and my best friends-we turn 30 within three days  of each other).  :(  BUT If something changes I am so there!

Thanks again you all!  And yeah...lots of replies...I am not complaining.  And Thank you to smasherofall...  :)

The shop that has been doing here has been here for years...and I have asked alot of people around town and noone has anything bad to say about them.  He plans to take alot of time with it...the car will probably be gone for a month or so...but at least it is fixable.

:)

Good luck with the Charger. It looks Sweet in the pictures. I would love to find a 70 someday. Keep us updated on your progress.
I'm surprised you don't have a line of single guys in Chargers lined up your street.  Good looking single girls that love cars are few and far between.

The interior of my car I am not even touching until maybe winter if I have the money or early Spring.  I am ripping it all out and redoing it.  Hey AK maybe we girls should get together and work on these cars.

You all I just cannot wait to get this car in the shop for the frame rails to be fixed.  And I am encountering some more problems with it, but I am hoping with new spark plugs and a good oil change (Which will be done when I get the new oil pan for the one on it is bent to heck) she will run smoother.

It is so sad to see how some people just do not take care of these cars...or any car for that matter.

I spent two hours cleaning out the garage and hope to have it in there by the end of the week too.

  And I do not understand why I have so many replies.     Seriously though you all have made me feel so much better about this car.
