That clip is super quality for an 8mm movie.  I looks like he's got the drivers coming out of the meeting in the Goodyear building.

That race was a typical HOT (pour the driver out of the car) July day in Daytona.   They would start the race in the morning to get it done.    Donnie Allison won it - a big win for him and a huge win for Ford running on an slashed budget for 1970.   Behind Donnie were five Daytonas and Superbirds all in a row.  Baker's #6 Daytona led almost half the race, but came up short at the end and finished second.

In the photo in front is Banjo Matthews in the white overalls.   Donnie is flanked by his mom and dad.

waynes talledega is orange , he bought it that way . Someone along the line painted it orange so i think his plan is to do a allison graphics car someday being that its orange already .

That would go nicely good with his #99 Daytona.   Wayne has the best of both worlds.

None of these cars have any side glass or vent windows at this race as it was no longer legal.    So that can't be a decal you are seeing.

They started the year with side glass legal, but by (or at) Talladega, it was outlawed to slow the cars down.

Great post, thanks for sharing!
I love the smell of nitro in the morning.

I liked them both. Thanks  :2thumbs:   At the end of the first one Petty is coming off the track from a supposedly blown motor.  Looking at the rear wing the horizontal piece is missing.   Wonder what happened or why he didn't have it and only the side supports  :shruggy:

Aero426

The center part of the wing is there.   It is just the poor video quality.   Buddy Arrington DID lost the center part of the wing in a crash during that race.   That is what mandated the safety cable to be implemented.

Old vintage film footage is great. :2thumbs: I got a clip on VHS where Bobby Isaacc wins driver of the year and the name of the presenter and president of Falstaff beer company will have you laughing. When they try to pronouce the presenters name Joe Griesedieck's

I referred to the wrong video.  It was in this one. Freeze it at 5.23-5.29 frames and it still looks the wing piece is missing even with the quality as it is. See what you guys think.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QF3h-u6BNbc&feature=&p=8922041F8D13FABA&index=0&playnext=1
Granted its probably there but its just weird how it would make it seem like its not on just that one piece.

Aero426

As the car pulls behind the wall you can see the top of the wing reappear.
