Trunklid Dent fix

Anyone knows how to fix this.......Trunk lid is solid, no bad things except the dent
Seems a hard to fix place where the dent is.
Don't wanna replace, only if this isn't nescessary and no other way to fix it nicely.....
Anyone got tips to on how to do this?

Unforunately that dent is beyond the scope of the "paintless dent removal" shops. You could check one out and see what they say but I'm thinking body shop for that damage.

because you can't get to the backside.  
I would:
cut it out, bend a new piece of metal and weld it in.  
Heat can get you with warping, should take a good long while to tack, cool, tack...etc

I thought stud puller, but it would probably affect the surrounding area because the bend is pretty strong area to work back.  You'd end up crowning the vertical face, you'd need to shrink it a lot since it stretched a lot, and with no dolly behind...well.

It's resto project, so trying to do it myself before sending it out.
And as newbie I can use any tips and help from the guys who did this before...............

I'm no pro, but dabble in bodywork. The first thing I would try is using a stud puller and attach it to the back edge of the deck lid (green X's). Then while pulling pressure on it (blue arrows), tap on the top of the lid with a body hammer (red arrows), to try to shape it back up.
Like I said, I'm no pro, but thats where I'd begin.

and if that dont work the next thing I would do is cut it right where its supposed to peak,straighten the two areas seperately and then weld it back up.

There are other stud pullers out there than just the type that welds a single pin. Most body shops will have several varieties that weld different types of pull tabs. That dent should be an easy fix. If you don't feel comfortable doing it, try taking it down to a local competent body shop & tell them you just want it pulled out. You can do the finish work after that. They might not charge you all that much, and the end result will be good.

If no stud gun tack a shim or washer to it, pull with dent puller with hook attachment while tapping down high spot. Good luck   LEON

Hi, I will try it myself, if it don't work out. seems not too hard to do.
Only need to buy a stud puller, obviously i've haven't got one laying around.

Feeling kinda stupid  but do I also need the thing with long stick and the slide weight to pound/pull the dent out or is that part of the studpuller?

 A slide hammer    yes to do the job properly    , for sheet matal stuff like that  , you dont need a big one !!  make sure the one you get has all the different attachments , hook, chuck thing to grip the pins !! ,  you can buy a studgun in a kit with small slide hammer !

Make sure you have a few band aids ready as well for when you slide the slide hammer on your fingers or the skin between your thumb and pointer fingers.

Dont forget that you can put 5-6 studs on and clamp with a duck-billed vise-grip threaded onto the slide hammer (clamping all 5), this helps with larger or pesky dents

This is the stud gun kit I have (a little pricey but worth it) you can find them much cheaper now at harbor freight tools (not the same brand) it will probably pay for itself on the one dent you have right there if you are thinking of farming it out to a body shop.


You can do a lot with it including shrinking metal and welding on molding studs.
