for some reason I love 68-70 chargers but not roadrunners,
and love 71 to 74 roadrunners but not chargers. go figure.

I am looking at a 74 RR.  Its only the base engine V8 model,
but fender tag is pretty interesting.

what do you guys think?

To each his own is a common thought.  It looks like a nice car and if it has a sunroof all the cooler. :2thumbs:  Also the stripes are always cool.  Definitely a cool car to be cruising in.  :coolgleamA:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

thanks, dont get me wrong.  I like all the original first 3 gen chargers, but I really, really dig 68-70.  And for some reason I dig the last gen RRs to.

Anyways, I should have been more specific,

I think red with black stripes is a cool combo, but I think the black with red will be interesting (in primer now) what do you think of that combo?

I was also thinking it was interesting it had disc brakes, dual exhaust with chrome tips, console/buckets etc. but with the base engine.  Was that a common combo in B bodies the past few years of production?  I always associated the 318 2bbl with bench seat, column shift, single exhaust type cars.

28 is the max cooling radiator (28 - inch wide).

Damn cool except for the 318, but that can be fixed. Toss in a 318-stock-dressed 360 and keep your mouth shut.

And don't believe that the 318 has been upgraded with 400 heads. There is a bit ( okay major) of a mismatch in doing that.

The 74 body is a cool one.  Yes it could have 340 or 360 heads but a 400 is big block no major motor parts will enterchange. If you are not concerned with large Hp 318s are great motors and last for ever. Have fun with it.

yeah, typo/error, I meant to tsay 360 heads and 4bbl.

I'm sure there's a 5.7 hemi with OD tranny and computer in some salvage yard for cheap...........
better read up on the third gen charger late hemi swaps for inspiration.  A low 13s daily driver with over 20mpg kicks butt.

ps- any idea why the car does not have the marker lights?

RD

they shaved them.  is this car on the KC craigslist?

Well, it's on the way.

It will need exhaust, a windshield, a front end rebuild, a new gas tank, some interior work, and plenty of the little things in the electicals for lights, gauges, etc. plus trying to get the sunroof to work.

I showed up on this board with a 69 GTO, an 09 Challenger R/T, and the goal of finding a 70 Charger to nose/wing only into a basic look of my family's 69 Daytona we had when I was a kid.

I have been sidetracked into getting a 71 Javelin SST 360 car and now this 318 RR.  I am a sucker for the basic ones no one else is getting back on the road.

What are some good late model front buckets that bolt direct in to a 74 RR or Charger?  This has some seriously beat 73 RR seats in front and I already have two other cars with the uncomfortable original seats.

Will you guys do me a favor and not kick me off the Charger boards for buying a RR?  Dodge makes my Challenger plus Mopar adopted the AMC engines like my 360 Javelin for a while in the Jeeps.

It's okay, I'm right there with you. When I joined this site in December 2006 I only had my Charger and was starting the restoration on it. Since then I bought a '73 Duster that I have done a bunch of work too, got a '70 Coronet 500 for free and I still gotta drag that home......my Charger hasn't had much work done to it since 2006 and they have let me stick around  Then I also bought a 5.0L Mustang last month but I'm still allowed here... ;)

I like how you think!

Sure, many would clone it to a 440 GTX, and I would rather see one of those clones on the road than never see one.

I need to check casting numbers and all, but it it is a good intake and good 360 heads I may go with a 360 shortblock vs rebuilding the 318.

Also need to check if it is original engine.  If it is, might stick with it.

If not, pretty sure I wont.

rebuilding a 318 costs the same as rebuilding a 360, which is about the same price as just getting a rebuilt engine period. (1200 to 1400 range)

I think a decent performance 360crate engine can be had for about twice that.

Or I may be way off, but thats what I recall looking at a while back.

I sitll find it hard to believe the car tags for such cool option combo but with the 318.

ramairthree

thanks 69bronze, I do like this place.

I cannot find the equivalent model specific quality board anywhere for a RR, etc.

There are some good non model specific boards, but not like this.

gtx6970

am I reading this right, Its a black on black factory sunroof car????

Nice  :2thumbs:

ramairthree

Yeah, it's got two TX9s in the fender tag,

not sure exactly how that pans out or would have looked.

its in primer (and someone added the side stripes) now, not orginal color

it is optioned so cool except for the engine if you ask me.  why they did not go for a big block or at least a 360 I do not know.
Its got plenty of other options.

i also know nothing about these roofs, how to get them working, etc.  I do have a 74 body service manual coming.

the only thing I am sure on is I bet I find out it leaks and have to tape plastic over it until I get it sealed and working right!
