...gotta fly to Iowa to pick up furniture and then drive rental truck home!

:o Yep, I need to fly from the Bay Area to Des Moines, pick up a rental truck, load up furniture and boxes, and drive non-stop back. Oh boy. In my wife's defense (this is for her) a mover wanted $3,000 to move a nice dinette set (her grandfathers). ONLY a dinette set. After she picked herself up off the floor we talked about other possibilities. For about $2,000 I can fly myself and a licensed 2nd driver (nephew) to Des Moines, pick up a rental truck, load it (with other stuff also, of course), and drive non-stop () on I-80, stopping only for food and charger sightings (:P). Yahoo maps puts this trips duration at 29 hours...maybe I can make a game out of it and try to better that time!

Any suggestions on a better way to do this? I don't mind the road trip, per se, but I do need to keep the paychecks coming in. Thanks in advance for your helpful suggestions.

Have everything packed securely or even crated and send it via a freight company. I ship stuff freight all the time. If you call and talk to several companies they will give you a discounted rate. All you have to do is ask. Sometimes as much as 60% off. I use FexEx freight and Yellow freight all the time. Look in the telephone directory and you will probably find a ton of them. It will cost a lot less than renting the truck and paying mileage. Plus your time is worth something too.

How nice is the dinette set???  Des Moines is only about 3 -1/2 hours away maybe i can buy it from you and give it to my spouse for a gift!!!

But really , i dont know any cheaper way than getting it yourself, or the shipping company route.

It better be one nice dining set.

Pack it, crate it & ship it for less. There's another company called Forward Air & they can usually do it for a lot less than any of the freight companies. They ship terminal to terminal, so you have to be close to one to drop off & pick up. No door to door shipping.

:iagree:

For that price, you could sell it to PT & buy a new dinette set in your area...probably end up spending around $1,000 when it's all said & done.

Well, depending on how low PT bargains you down to. :blahblah:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

How about a case of beer for it?  Actually, we have too much crap in our house as it is.  When my spouses Grandparents passed away, her and her parents decided to distribute all the crap that they had instead of having an estate sale, so now we gotta keep 15 F-ing lamps in our attick because "it was my Grammas"..... so in Lurches voice from the Addams Family i reply with "Uhhhhhhh".

"UPDATE"   :icon_smile_shock: Well, it seems that we have to bring back a hutch and dinette set (my wife's grandparents...lots of sentimental value), along with perhaps 20 boxes. As we have to do some person to person with the local real estate lady, at least one of us will need to physically be there. So, what we will probably do is load up (wife and daughter) the chebby 2500 and take a mini-vacation/road trip. I'm just going to wrap everything in anticipation of rain so the weather will stay nice and dry. This way I only spend money on fuel, and food, and motels, and possibly speeding tickets. Just bad timing is all. But when you break an egg.... Besides, my daughter can visit with her great-grandpa!

So, boyos, what sights of interest along I-80 are there, besides Reno? Any Mopar related activities? Kid attractions (she is 5)?
