318-Exhaust Manifold Heat Valve

Hello;

On my 69 charger it has a 318 motor. On the passenger side on the exhaust manifold there is
a heat control valve, has a counter weight, thermo spring. It does moves. I am currently rebuilding
the motor, so motor is out. I don't know if the heat thing works. Is there a way to test it while I got
engine out? Should I just remove it? do they make new retro? What do you mopar experts think I should do?
