yes Jackie, thanks for that.  Amazing how people defend someone who is/once was in cuffs.   Let me guess, Quad, you probably think OJ is still innocent of his charges? :smilielol:

No problem.   Bet that pic wasn't printed in the Layson's article in MCG ?  :smilielol: :smilielol:

Yea I think I remember that photo, in his MCG...He knew it would get out, if he didn't....He was in the wrong spot at the wrong time.
BTW, I love the magazine, except they just featured a Ugly Station Wagon that some guy wasted a good 426 Hemi on.
Hey what ever happened to his bid mopar.com and don't forget your Mopar University Degree.  :brickwall:

RallyeMike

Actually, his photo in handcuffs is proudly displayed on the MCG website under the Staff tab.
So I would guess that either it's seen as some type of badge of honor or they themselves see the humor in it.

I used to subscribe to all the Mopar magazines & I saved every Charger article/photo for over a decade (gotta scan those someday).  A couple of years ago, I realized a couple of things that I didn't like about the magazines:

Mopar Muscle:  Too much content dedicated to newer cars, about which I couldn't care less.

Mopar Enthusiast:  While having great Ehernberger tech, had too much vendor advertising (as also did Mopar Muscle) - for example taking 16 pages for an 8 page article due to ads on every other page.

Mopar Collectors Guide:  The best of the bunch. Had to endure the C-List celebrity cars and enjoyed the Playboy show coverage initially.  But I really hated, and I mean hated, the monthly conspiratorial environmental diabtribe.  Even though I largely agreed with the views expressed, I hated the idea of having this nyperbole and vitriol in a car magazine.

I then decided that I didn't need to pay for content that I didn't want and cancelled all of my subscriptions.  Immediately thereafter, I extended my subscriptions to Hemmings Muscle Cars and Hemmings Collector Cars - the best two car magazines around.  No comparison.

And life was good.

Never read that magazine in question, but I do have something to ask...

What's so bad about it containing celebrities cars? Why is that such a big deal to some?

Did the cars not receive the same kind of article a non-celeb's care would have?

Rooks, I can give you my view since that is why I quit the subscription.  I did not mind an every now and then article on someone famous owning a mopar.  However, it got to be tiring really fast when all it seemed like for a long time was that they were promoting famous peoples cars.  I, for one, would have liked to seen it where they focussed on the average Joe kinda guy and do articles on that like they used to.  They also used to have good tech articles too.  When I called up and told them to cancel my subscription, they asked why and the snyde/snobbish remark I got from the girl was that "If I wanted to read those kinda articles, then I should get Mopar Enthusiast or Mopar Muscle."

MCG always prided and promoted themselves as the "Grassroots" Mopar magazine. Basically meaning they are a small hardworking magazine that identifies with the blue collar hardworking guy. At least that's the impression I have always gotten. That seems to have changed over the years, as the most common complaint I hear is that it's all musicians and celebrities getting featured these days. The Mopar world isn't that big and that fad will wear out over time and maybe it will go back to what so many liked about the mag back in the day.

It's a pretty simple answer...you like it, subscribe, you don't...move on.

Fair enough, but I have to ask, how are the articles any different? Do they only talk about the celebs latest album/movie, or did they still trat the article like any other car, and give you the features/history rundown etc?

Despite what we'd all like to believe, half the cars featured in any magazine arn't owned by the average Joe - especially once you get into the upper end high $$$ resto's on rare numbered makes & models. They're owned by millionaires, most of whom have either walked into a Barret-Jackson Auction and bid like crazy after all the hard work has been done - or just dropped off the car at a shop with a blank cheque.

How is that any different than a celebs car?

After all .... isn't the story about the car? I couldn't give a toss who the owner is!

Ghoste

I don't know, the same issue has a 1970 sunroof Hemi Charger in it that doesn't belong to anyone famous, how bad could it be?  :icon_smile_big:

got some great points there russ.  i did subscribe at one time, let it lapse.  the reason being.. i thought MM, ME, and MA were all better.  i just thought the CraigRTSE's version of the budweiser commercial was funny is all.. i dont give a shit about rob wolf or any magazine editor to be honest.

I gotta say, I wrote the entire MCG feature last month on the MoPowered Tour, I drove with Rob Wolf for 4 days this year, and hung out with him and his crew at multiple events for many years.  He's just trying to do what he thinks is best.  Him and his crew are some of the nicest people you will meet.  Look at the MoPowered Tour issue, we did features on an original 66 Hemi Belvidere owned by a local on the tour, my 17 year old friend who built a 69 A12 Super Bee and the Frankencuda.  It covers it all in time.

I like the celebrity stuff, it is cool to see that they appreciate Mopars like we do and to see what they do with their Mopars.

Too each their own, for all those that complain, there are 1000's that do like it.  Otherwise they wouldn't be in business.

" But I really hated, and I mean hated, the monthly conspiratorial environmental diatribe. "

Exactly why I quit my subscription 6 or 7 years ago. Only touched one issue since.

Unlike Neal, I completely disagree with their view of environmental issues.

If I want politics I'll go in search of that, don't put it in a car magazine.  Give me pistons and paint, not politicial prejudice.

Now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical,
      a liberal, oh fanatical, criminal.
Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're
acceptable, respectable, oh presentable, a vegetable!

Ghoste

See for me, that is the first thing I read every month.  The politics and the environmental legislators have a very real effect on the hobby.

ACUDANUT

I love MCG (brownie points)....Rob Wolf....I would now like a free lifetime subscription and an acticle on my Mopars....I am here for you man.
