Quick q on wiper switch

Have a 72 with a 2 speed motor. 
Quick question - is the switch originally set up such that the speeds go in the order of off-high-low?

I took the switch apart to clean it as it was acting screwy and now the order I have is as above.
I cannot recall from 20 years ago if this was/is the norm.

Not sure -

But I've got a three-speed switch in a 1971 and I think it goes from off to low to high, meaning the farther I turn the switch from the off position the faster the wipers go.

I'm sure others with a two-speed switch will offer their take!

they must be: off, low, high

take care, 71 switches are diff prong disposition and size, won't match 72 and lates plug.

71 variable speeds are continuous control like a volume knob ( I have a 71 variable setup on my 74 ), but I think 71 got regular 3 speeds switches too. Still these must be from low to high

Thanks for the input.  I looked in the actual owner's booklet and see that it should go off-low-high.
Well i am stumped.  Mine still goes off - high - low AND the wiper washer works in the off position and the high position but not the 3rd (low position).
I just don't get it.  The new wiring harness is identical to my old one.
There is not alot in the switch that can be turned 180 degrees AND it only goes together in one way.
Has anyone ever had this issue and solved it?
Could I have screwed up wiring in the motor?

some wires are swaped.

motor gets a brown wire and washer is also brown wire, but running through engine harness in 72.

Were bulkhead wires swaped somehow ?

Thanks.  I have the wires correct - motor and washer. 
I am also assuming the speed is controlled by the switch and not the motor so there is no wiring on the motor that can be messed up and thus affecting speed.
Since the connector for the motor connects to the bulkhead in only one way I don't think things are messed up there.
I am now thinking I just have a bad switch....40 years and a healthy dose of mouse pee later and, well, I think I'd crap out too.
Not sure how to test it, though.
