Ballast resistor !!

 hello :wave:

been thinking  :think: :smilie_help: !!  , we all know that Ballast resistors get hot  !! & heat kills / shortens their life !!  well ! i put a thick washer/shim on the back of the resistor so once screwed to the firewall , there is a air gap of 1/4" of an inch  , thinking would help cooling as air can get behind !! well then thinking again !!  screwed tight to the fire wall , no gap behind ! does the fire wall act as a sort of heatsink allowing the heat to be dissapated !  & being off the firewall the resistor heat build up has no where to go  !!!
  am i thinking to much about this !!  do i need to wait for a bus  :shortbus:
any thoughts on this guys !! would be greatly appreciated !!

You're overthinking it.

The ballast has to reach a certain temperature to achieve the design resistance.
