72 SE 440 parts or repair

Help please.  The car is an original 72 SE (wp29U), with slapstick shifter and 'rally?' gauges, the car is complete and cosmetically in very good shape.  However, a recent inspection of the frame revealed several significant rust issues with the frame; notably the front cross member, the front frame rails, but the entire frame is essentially very poor.

It has been suggested that the cost to repair the car would be better spent getting a car in need of less work.

At a bit of a loss as to what to do next; repair or .....

edit: added photos, frame photos not available.

welcome to the site.  yes, frame repair is expensive if you are unable to do the work yourself.  the question is whether or not the car means that much to you to do it.  you can find framerails from people who have parted out cars for reasonable prices, its just the labor of installation that will be frightening.

show some pictures of the car on this forum and we will be able to give you a better idea as to whether to move on or if you can stick to it.

Agreed . . .

Those sorts of repairs are not to be taken lightly, but they are not impossible by any means.

That's a pretty rare car . . .

But you're going to have to do that whole cost-benefit analysis thing and decide if it's something that makes sense for YOU to do or pay to have done in this case.

If you have to pay someone, it's likely going to cost some serious money. (It looks like there's a couple used front rails on eBay right now - they're going for about $200-$300 each, so that plus the labor . . .)

If you can do it yourself, it's likely going to take some serious time and work to get it done, and get it done right.

Pictures would help!

Where do you live ? Maybe a member of this site can look it over for you. It might not be all that bad, If you took it to a shop, they might have told you that to get rid of you so they wouldn't have to deal with what they considered to be a difficult repair...

The rest of the body looks to be in great shape, I'd try to save it for sure.

Thank you all for the replies.

I am getting a someone to look at the car early next week and should  be able to get some pics of the underside of the car.  With any luck it will be better news.

The car is located in southern ontario canada.

755 U-code Charger S.E.'s were made in 72. Definitely worth saving!
